Really starting to dig into restoration work on my moonroof GN.

A little info: bought this car in June from one of my best customers and now friends. He got a sweet deal on another GN and new I would take the bait cause I wanted a factory moonroof GN. Car has 159k on the clock, digital dash, lots of options including block heater. It is all there but it pretty much needs everything.

I started with a chip/inj/duttweller intercooler and a good used turbo. Got it running really good-and valve springs. Put a shift kit in the tranny that was rebuilt prior to me owning it. Rebuild the rear end. Drove it about 2k miles.

It needed a heater core, so I did that. I also found the water leak the PO had been talking about. Fixed that all up.

I then decided to start the resto bit by bit. First I removed the factory trunk kit. POR15 everywhere, it had lots of surface rust on unpainted surfaces.

The moonroof needs some TLC, so this weekend I removed the entire module. And the project took off. Now the entire interior is out and I am POR 15ing the floor pans as well as the roof etc. Car is going to Mike at Richard Clarks soon for a repaint. I load up a bunch of random pics. If you are on facebook or follow my page on there you will have seen these already. It is so much easier to load pics over there.

Nice work Steve
While you have it torn apart make sure you blow out the drain lines...looks like you may have a leak. You coming to Richards in May?

Hey Bryan, yes I will be at RC's at least 1 day in May prob Saturday maybe more. I am building a stroker motor under his watchful eye at moment as time allows.

The water leak was the HVAC case drain totally stopped up, got that with the heater core job. But the drains will be attended to as PM.:)

Por15 went on tonite. Arosol on the roof /pillars, brush on the floor pan.

Looks good. Question though. How do you reinstall the new headliner? Looks like the material is sandwiched between the 2 pieces of stainless trim around the hole. Those 2 pieces don't appear to come apart. I have a new ABS headliner, and I'm not removing my moonroof assembly.

You cut out the material on the new headliner and leave enough to tuck into the pieces. I just use a pick or a pocket screw driver.

STEVE, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND RUN NEW REAR WATER DRAIN LINES FOR THE ASTRO ROOF. THE ORIG GM LINES JUST RUN INSIDE THE QUARTER. I CUT 2 HOLES,ONE IN THE TOP OF THE INNER ROCKER, ON TOP AND UNDER THE VEHICLE. I INSTALLED 2 RUBBER GROMETS AND RUN THE NEW DRAIN HOSES OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE INNER ROCKERS. NONE OF THE DRAIN WATER WILL EVER DRAIN INSIDE MY QUARTER. IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE 2 INNER QUARTER COVERS(SILVER) WHERE THE SEATBELT MOUNTS TO ACCESS THIS AREA.

Thanks Bill. I loaded those areas with POR15 since they were not rusty. I like your idea better.

Here some more pics. The wife (thanks to her for being a good sport)and installed the glass and trim ring then put it back in the car. Then the trouble started. I was adjusting the glass and broke the piece on the right side cable. Cables are long gone and I am digging for one. Enjoy some more pics:)
