2010 GATEWAY OUTLAW ALL STARS SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS END THE SEASON ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30th!
WILL THIS BE THE FINAL DRAG RACE EVER TO BE HELD AT GATEWAY?
The final event in the eight-race 2010 Outlaw All Stars Series takes place on Saturday, October 30th, with what should the wildest, wheelstanding action of the entire year at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Spectator admission is still only ten dollars with children under thirteen years old admitted free!
The event will determine the 2010 season point champions in all ten OAS eliminator categories and the titles are still up for grabs in all but TWO divisions! Tim McAmis Performance Parts and the American Drag Racing League have posted noncontingent cash awards for the entire 2010 Outlaw All Stars Series and Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels will award new rear tires to every OAS point champion at the end of the 2010 season!
Eric Sanzottera has already locked up the championship in Outlaw Motorcycle with his 195 mph “no wheelie bar“ Suzuki Hayabusa and Paul Hagen‘s red 1999 Pontiac Formula Firebird appears to be out of reach for his opponents in the 13.0 Index category. However, every other class of competition will be involved in all-out war to crown a series victor!
A win on October 16th put the 4.0-second, 185 mph supercharged ‘59 Corvette of Jamie Hutchins back on top in Outlaw Eliminator but with only a miniscule eight-point lead, (less than one round of competition!), over rival Jeff Hansen‘s ProCharger-equipped ‘69 Camaro. Three-time runner-up Mike Richter still has an outside chance at the season title in his immaculate 706-cubic inch Chevy Cavalier. In Super Street (True 10.5) Eliminator, an October 16th event win put Mark “Woody” Woodruff‘s turbocharged 7.5-second ’67 Corvette back into the lead over Tim Gehrs‘ outrageous ProCharged ‘81 Olds Cutlass by only thirty-one points! In Drag Radial Eliminator, Tom Derby and his Missouri-based nitrous oxide-injected ‘69 Camaro is clinging to a thirty-six point lead over 2010 SCSS Champion Daryl “Dirty D” Jauernig whose nitrous-fed ’88 Mustang won the most recent OAS meet and clocked a career-best 7.88!
In the Index categories, Janie Palm is the only female contender for an OAS championship since taking the 9.50 Street Bike lead over Nelson Taylor’s Kawasaki ZX14 but the two are separated by less than one round of competition! The closest class of all may be 10.0 Index Eliminator where the top four machines, Steve Pearson’s Chevy Vega, Frank Radake’s ’68 Camaro, Aaron Boehmer’s wheelstanding ’68 AMX and Pat Nothdurft’s ‘66 Mustang are separated by only three rounds of racing! Second-generation racer Dennis Pearson’s ’98 Camaro is only one round ahead of Bud Gilliam’s Chevy Monza in the 11.0 standings. Lee Edgar’s amazingly consistent ’89 Mustang has a five-round lead over Jason Hilleman’s ’81 Camaro in the 12.0 division but could be caught with the turnout of machines expected for the event. Larry Wilkerson‘s equally-potent ‘87 Mustang is now the leader in 12.0 Eliminator but is only two rounds ahead of Tim Mallicoat, Jr., in his ’91 S-10 and Dusty Katich‘s 2000 Trans Am. All the titles will go down the wire on Saturday, October 30th!
Since this may be the final event for Gateway International Raceway itself, bracket racing has been added to the program with two classes, (Electronics and Non-Electronics), presented in Gambler’s Race format. The event will also be conducted on a daylight racing schedule. Gates open at 8:00 AM with qualifying and timed trials beginning at 9:00 AM. Eliminations start at 1:30 PM Saturday afternoon!
The OAS offers very low entry fees for equally modest purses but will accommodate virtually any vehicle. Spectator admission is also extremely cheap at $10 for adults with all children under 13 years admitted free. The program and its rules were created with a goal of offering nearly all competitors a class in which to compete without the expense of adding new equipment. All purses will be based on the number of entries in each competition division and will be presented to the winner and runner-up in each class. Purse money will be accrued from all competitors above the basic $20 GIR entry fee for all contestants. Payout to the finalists will be 70% of the total accrued awarded to the winner and 30% of the total accrued awarded to the runner-up in each eliminator category. In the bracket racing classes, purse money will be distributed in accordance with current GIR bracket racing payout regulations.
All vehicles entered for competition must pass a basic NHRA technical inspection and must comply with all rules for the eliminator category entered as well as the NHRA-mandated regulations for advanced performance including additional safety equipment, chassis construction and driver licensing requirements. Rules: Open to all vehicles utilizing untreaded, (“slick”), rear tires of no more than 10.5 inches in width. Any engine modification permitted including turbocharging, supercharging or nitrous oxide injection. No “wheelie bars” permitted. 10.5W tires are prohibited.
Purse: Winner, runner-up and semi-finalists receive monetary awards. Winner and runner-up receive trophies.
Drag Radial Eliminator:
Entry fee: $40
Rules: Open to all vehicles utilizing Department Of Transportation-approved treaded rear tires of no more than 13.0 inches in width. Rear tires must carry an official D.O.T. stamp on sidewalls. Any engine modification permitted including turbocharging, supercharging or nitrous oxide injection. No “wheelie bars” permitted.
Purse: Winner and runner-up receive trophies plus monetary awards.
Outlaw Motorcycle Eliminator:
Entry fee: $45
Rules: Open to all vehicles with any engine or chassis modifications. “Wheelie bars” are permitted.
Purse: Winner and runner-up receive trophies plus monetary awards.
Outlaw Eliminator:
Entry fee: $45
Rules: Open to all vehicles with any engine or chassis modifications. “Wheelie bars” are permitted. Outlaw Eliminator (only) competes on an eighth-mile course.
Purse: Winner, runner-up and semi-finalists receive monetary awards. Winner and runner-up receive trophies.
