I have 255/40-17 front and 285/40-17 rear.
I have HRE 504's 17x8.5 front and 17x9 rear.
I would like 9 wide in front and 9.5 wide in rear and run 275 in front and keep 285 in rear, just filled out.

245 or 255/35-18 fronts
285 or 295/35-18 rear

I would say 255 on the front, as the side wall would be flush. The 245 would be just a bit stretched. The 285 is stock dia. and would fit pretty flush. The 295 would fill out the wheel well a bit more, but may be a little sucked in.

Just purchased and installed some weld RTS wheels. I debated on 15's vs. 17's but ended up with the 15's. 15x5 up front and 15x10 in the rear. The backspacing used up front 2.5 and 4.5 in the rear. Had to roll the lip to get the monster 295/55 Mickey Thompson's to fit. 1 1/4 spacers up front to push out the wheel.
