My 83' Limited Regal Restoration Thread, PICS

Those molded in fillers really look nice. Very subtle and VERY smooth. Please post some more pics of the progress.

thanks, long overdue for some pics. Both bumpers are on, trunk is assembled, LED tail lights installed (in a non 83 lens, no molding to hide screws, I had another idea) some chrome installed...

More pics tonight or this weekend!

Damn! Looks great. I don"t even need a car painted and I want you to paint my car:p

I need a new project.

Great job!!! Can't wait to see it finished.

UPDATES w/ PICS!

Alright guys, long over due for a restoration thread.. Here are the current pics of the car. Center console is all re-wired w/ new switch plate, inside is completely sound deadened, and LED tail lights were "bonded" inside the lens w/ 3M Panel bond adhesive. My 83" doesnt have the trim strip to hide the screw holes, so this was one of my options. those lights are KILLER!!! Love Em!

It's getting there! should have it on the road this late May Early June!! Can't Wait.... ENJOY!!!!

Pics

Every piece on this car that was painted, even if not visible, received the Tri-Coat Pearl. Look close at new cars once, especially Fords ( I work at a ford dealership) the jams are just the base color w/ no pearl, pretty $hitty... Painted the headlight buckets w/ trim black, even though they are not visible, and no body else will never know, except for you reading this ;-) Little things that I know are done, and documented w/ the 1,000 plus pics I have of this car. this is just a handful to give you guys the general idea of what been done.

Notice inside the trunk jam, no seams....another subtle body mod that makes the car very clean looking. Only a true G-Body fanatic would notice these things..

The LED bulbs in the Speedo are SOO nice, I have to wire in a load resistor though, as the dimmer hardly does anything w/ only LED bulbs (alos swicthed over the tach, and shifter illumination)

The Body gaps on the car are Perfect, I'm sooo picky, and all the time I spent fitting stuff up really paid off. The Chrome Piece above the Grill that says "BUICK" is an example of all the stuff I had chromed on the car, like a mirror. this piece was never shiny from the factory, and mine was very pitted....it Really makes the front end... also note the NOS "Regal" emblem, good e-bay find for $20 shipped, little details that make this car.....

The inside of that trunk is BUTTA!!!!!!!!!! Really digging the Regal emblem too. I always liked the grilles on the 81-83's. They seemed more upright and tough looking.

Where are the quarter panel pics of the rear fillers smoothed out? And is there any reason you didn't do the same with the front?

Seam Sealer

Looks awesome!! I'm in the process of replacing the heater core and next thing you know I'm painting the entire firewall. I'm looking for a seam sealer that looks factory and I was wondering if the 3M heavy bodied looked factory and is it easy to work with.

Thanks

Great work Yedi. I'm always impressed by someone who is willing to do their own meticulous work. I'm pretty sure you're pickier than me. I have an imperfection at the end of the quarter on my GN. Fixing it involves fixing the imperfection that most people don't notice, and then painting the quarter and sail panel and cut off at the roof line. I've been putting off fixing it now for about 5 years. :D

3M heavy Bodied seam sealer is some nice stuff! if your going for the "factory" look 3M fast and Firm (in a caulk gun tube) is what you need. BUT, this stuff doesnt spread nearly as nice as the fast and firm.

Use the Heavy Bodied, what I do for a real nice look is take some 3/4" tape and mask around the seam you want to seam, and use a small acid brush to brush the sealer out, remove the tape right away, because if the sealer starts to set up, it will look like crap. (ask me how I know) I think it's like a 10 minute window you have.... this will leave a real nice crisp edge.

This is how I did all my seams on my car..Another plus is heavy bodied stays flexible, and Will Not crack over time, unlike the single part Fast and Firm.....

Thanks Man! Quarter panel pics are above, the pics of the car on the trailer after it was painted. just dont have the bumper on in the pics, maybe thats why you didnt notice it?? it looks great.

I didnt do the front, because those are still the GM flexible plastic/rubber ones. I put aftermarket fiberglass fillers on the back, because my original one was shot...I bought the new GM front fillers a few years back when you could still buy them from a dealer....talking like 2002-2003ish??

It's coming along, working on putting the doors together, and anyone that has gutted a door, and tried re-assembling it knows what I'm going through, let alone doors that arent the original doors for the car (window adjustments, etc...) Fun Fun....Next pics posted will be of the completed product, w/ interior installed, look for those around Late May Early June ;)

Awesome job!!!!

and GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!!! i love threads like this... keep up the great work:biggrin:
