Machine shop costs

I was quoted $2050 just for labor. To machine and assemble shortblock

Labor for 2 billet caps and stroker clearance

2400 for longblock assembly. Labor only

Seems expensive. I send the guy Work too. Thought he would have hooked me up a little.
so you were quoted $4450 total for machine work and assembly? Your post is slightly confusing

So you have about 1100-1200$ in shortblock Work here. Did that include assembly?

My quote was assuming brand new forged rotating assembly and new aluminum heads and cam. So no machine work necessary on those.
Even out the box heads you will see how bad the intake runners are with lining up with the intake manifold . I would at bear minimum match the intake runners . And I picked up quite a bit of flow just by doing some basic clean up of the short turns . Intake flowed like 210ish and 185ish ex out the box with basic clean up and port matching got them up to 230ish in and 206ex. Out the box they flow as good as a great set of iorns so it’s defiantly worth minor matching/ porting IMO

Well damn. Didn’t think about that. I have new gn1s sitting here ready to go. I will have to look into that more.

I’m not sure how bad the ports line up with gn1s but I know for sure you will want to pay special attention to the push rod holes I had to enlarge them to clear regular size push rods . The picture of the heads is with felpro 1200 gaskets if you notice the red is what I had to take off to have them actully match the gasket

Oh wow. I see. How much room is there to port? As in risks of hitting a jacket, etc.
There is plenty of room to port match as u can see the head on top is port matched .if you go about a inch in there is a pushrod hole that u can break into . I installed acouple brass sleeves there as well as the 2 center head bolt holes I sleeved . But just basic clean up you should be fine . If u need any port work shoot me a pm . Here’s a pic of my Ta heads I ported and flowed

There is a ton of work that goes into machining and assembly. Nothing and I mean nothing is cut and dry on these motors and the cars they go in. One thing leads to another and so on.

The prices do not sound out of line.

Hey dank GN, thats some great looking work.
Thanks bud I’ve been acquiring all the right stuff to do heads like a valve grinder a seat grinder with all the stones and measurement equipment to do it right all I need is a surface and I would be able to do everything regarding cylinder head porting and assembling cylinder heads

The cost of just the TA block is $4600. To machine it....prob $3000, but that's a total guess because it depends on what your doing to it to get a more accurate cost.
Machine work is not meant to be cheap....it's meant to be correct. Search out the cheapest machine shop and your next post will be..."Wanted.....109 block".
There is a reason that the saying in cars goes ....
Cheap....Fast....or Realible......pick any 2
Who's the Douchebag that rated this post..."Optimistic"???
