I can't believe what kind of crap is going on around here.

Yep...........just keep pushing them away. You are doing such a good job Jack. Such a good job at making sure other buick forums get more traffic. You never did answer if you talked to Bruce about locking down that thread. Everything is done as a commitee remember You have to talk to everybody else about doing something like that. You can't go off doing what you feel is best. So, that had to be a pretty quick conversation to lock down that thread so quickly.

Honestly, I feel this is a great site with a wealth of information and the moderatorsowners can feel free to run it how they wish. However, if we cannot discuss what is fair play and what is not, then it's like playing a kick ball game with the kid down the street that never tells you the rules. What, you mean 2 foul balls and you're out!
It's a fine line. Any forum is only as good as it's members. So if too many get pissed and leave the forum suffers. It just depends on what makes them mad. Is it the offensive posts or the strict moderation
Also, any forum needs a way to live financially. I understand the offensive posts may cause some vendors to question their support of the site. However, I would assume they would understand this already. Though their are probably discussions behind the scenes that I'm not aware. Fine Line..... I never want to be a moderator... Though we must know what is acceptable.
Personally, I think Work Warning was enough for the last post. I teach children. If they are on the Internet unsupervised already then believe me... they've seen a lot worse!

I'm not Bruce nor am I Jack. However, I can tell you why the thread was locked with about 90 percent certainty Pat. The reason that thread was locked was bc it was turning into a waste of bandwidth and a pointless thread. How hard is it to E-mail the originator of the thread for the link If those who register would actually comprehend and implement what they have read then these problems would theoretically not happen. I agree to those rules, but I think the problem is that everyone has a different set of ideals concerning what is vulger and offensive. While I think that post had strong language, it may be everyday language to some. Also, a bikini woman was posted the other day and the post was deleted. While it showed no breasts or privates I thought it was okay and not extremely sexually oriented. I guess if we stick to Buicks then we'd be okay.
How about a password only forum for dirty jokes, and posts that might otherwise get deleted

This would be a question you could ask of Bruce. I think that the rules set forth follow along the guides lines of applying common sense and decency. I myself am no angel. However I do realize that there is a time and a place for the use of profanity as should everyone else in attendance. I'm not saying everyone should be of the mind set that this site should be treated as a holy than thou place. Just use common sense when posting. Although I don't know what the original locked post contained but I think that rules like that are very important. I agree that the assessment of what is offensive or vulgar is not objective and of course you'll never reach a common ground on this matter. But I don't have a problem in seeing the offensive part in a bikini girl even though no private parts are shown if the pictures serves to reduce a woman to an object what most if these pictures do. But I haven't seen that post either, so I wouldn't know. But fact is that somebody needs to watch out that the rules of the board are obeyed and it is up to these people to decide what breaks them.

you can already type 4 letter words if you disguise them...sorta like bleeping them. even on springer they can't let 4 letter words over the air waves. the car salesman thing was way over the edge though. you have to remember that anyone , including children can access this board, and according to the board, foul language shouldn't be here. I agree about a girl in a bikini though. If you watch a soap opera, they show them in lingerie all the time now, and i'm sure plenty of kids staying home with mom over summer vaca are getting an eye full.

That is precisely a point Bruce and I discussed last night. That IS the guideline we are going to use.
The choice a member has is to abide be the board rules or go else where, we know that. Some boards have no rules, but that is of no concern here.
We have many reasons that require us to enforce the general guidelines as posted, and these levels have been set by Jack and myself with the approval of Bruce.
We are NOT going to have a forum for dirty jokes and anything with nudity. There are plenty of other places on the net with that available. This is a turbo BUICK board, and we plan to keep it that way.
So to avoid deletion an off-color post, or one in bad taste, don't post it. We will not explain why we deleted these kind of posts, they will just be gone.

The thing comes down to one point. We as males hopefully have evolved past the point of having to have a sexual stimulation every .05 seconds. Considering over 90% the Internets business is porn, why should we lower ourselves to that level to maintain membership. If you need to display swine like mentality, then go to one of those sites. I'm sure they will be glad to place a few cookies on your computer so you get all the latest and greatest enlargement methods in your e-mail constantly.
The rules and guidelines are placed predominately on stickies on the forums, please read them this time. You will find Nick or Jack are well within the bounds of the charter with all the board members. Porn is in the eyes of the beholder. So if you need this kind of input, then you will be holding other things also I would imagine. The rules are the rules. Without guidelines, you have anarchy. As far as membership going away, well since I am having to welcome new members to the board at an average of 5 to 15 a day since Bruce took over the board, I can't see too many being alienated. If some are, I am troubled by that, but if the problem is due to Jack, Nick, and Bruce not allowing crap on the site that is not appropriate, well I have to question, is it a lose at all really
Acting like boys with our toys is fine, acting like men and being responsible when here, is mandatory. I find it interesting that one lady in our community here spoke with accuracy in saying its demeaning to women. You can have fun, you can be witty, and you can tell jokes, but use some degree of maturity in the choice of your actions. And if what you do isn't sanctioned by the moderators, then accept the fact and move on. If Jack or Nick were concerned, I'm sure the silent majority had its doubts as well.
I personally think Nick and Jack should have their salaries increased by 100%, but then doubling nothing is still nothing. With the amount of work they put into making this board a great place for free advice, they deserve a ^5 at the least. As you can all see by the amount of action this thread has drawn, they really could be better spending their times and energies in doing things in regards to their own businesses (yes, they are doing real, meaningful jobs). But they are here out of a desire to better the community of Buick owners. A very selfless act I think.
Ok, that is enough of my rant. Boys, play nice, keep it clean, save your questionable stuff for your e-mails, and listen to the moderators. They really are great people. If you can't follow or understand the guidelines, I'm sure Nick can make it very clear again.

FYI.... Jack , Nick or myself do not need Bruces or each others blessing to lock or delete a thread. As far as the committee remark , we will get together on some issues be it a thread or ways to make TB.com bigger , stronger and the most informed Turbo Buick site on the net.

You never did answer if you talked to Bruce about locking down that thread. Everything is done as a commitee remember You have to talk to everybody else about doing something like that. Honestly, I feel this is a great site with a wealth of information and the moderatorsowners can feel free to run it how they wish. However, if we cannot discuss what is fair play and what is not, then it's like playing a kick ball game with the kid down the street that never tells you the rules. What, you mean 2 foul balls and you're out!
It's a fine line. Any forum is only as good as it's members. So if too many get pissed and leave the forum suffers. It just depends on what makes them mad. Is it the offensive posts or the strict moderation
Also, any forum needs a way to live financially. I understand the offensive posts may cause some vendors to question their support of the site. However, I would assume they would understand this already. Though their are probably discussions behind the scenes that I'm not aware. Fine Line..... I never want to be a moderator... Though we must know what is acceptable.
Personally, I think Work Warning was enough for the last post. I teach children. If they are on the Internet unsupervised already then believe me... they've seen a lot worse!

The reason that thread was locked was bc it was turning into a waste of bandwidth and a pointless thread. How hard is it to E-mail the originator of the thread for the link If those who register would actually comprehend and implement what they have read then these problems would theoretically not happen. I agree to those rules, but I think the problem is that everyone has a different set of ideals concerning what is vulger and offensive. While I think that post had strong language, it may be everyday language to some. Also, a bikini woman was posted the other day and the post was deleted. While it showed no breasts or privates I thought it was okay and not extremely sexually oriented. I guess if we stick to Buicks then we'd be okay.

This would be a question you could ask of Bruce. I think that the rules set forth follow along the guides lines of applying common sense and decency. I myself am no angel. However I do realize that there is a time and a place for the use of profanity as should everyone else in attendance. Although I don't know what the original locked post contained but I think that rules like that are very important. I agree that the assessment of what is offensive or vulgar is not objective and of course you'll never reach a common ground on this matter. But I don't have a problem in seeing the offensive part in a bikini girl even though no private parts are shown if the pictures serves to reduce a woman to an object what most if these pictures do. But I haven't seen that post either, so I wouldn't know. But fact is that somebody needs to watch out that the rules of the board are obeyed and it is up to these people to decide what breaks them.

you can already type 4 letter words if you disguise them...sorta like bleeping them. even on springer they can't let 4 letter words over the air waves. the car salesman thing was way over the edge though. you have to remember that anyone , including children can access this board, and according to the board, foul language shouldn't be here. I agree about a girl in a bikini though. If you watch a soap opera, they show them in lingerie all the time now, and i'm sure plenty of kids staying home with mom over summer vaca are getting an eye full.

That is precisely a point Bruce and I discussed last night. That IS the guideline we are going to use.
The choice a member has is to abide be the board rules or go else where, we know that. Some boards have no rules, but that is of no concern here.
We have many reasons that require us to enforce the general guidelines as posted, and these levels have been set by Jack and myself with the approval of Bruce.
We are NOT going to have a forum for dirty jokes and anything with nudity. There are plenty of other places on the net with that available. This is a turbo BUICK board, and we plan to keep it that way.
So to avoid deletion an off-color post, or one in bad taste, don't post it. We will not explain why we deleted these kind of posts, they will just be gone.

The thing comes down to one point. We as males hopefully have evolved past the point of having to have a sexual stimulation every .05 seconds. Considering over 90% the Internets business is porn, why should we lower ourselves to that level to maintain membership. If you need to display swine like mentality, then go to one of those sites. I'm sure they will be glad to place a few cookies on your computer so you get all the latest and greatest enlargement methods in your e-mail constantly.
The rules and guidelines are placed predominately on stickies on the forums, please read them this time. You will find Nick or Jack are well within the bounds of the charter with all the board members. Porn is in the eyes of the beholder. So if you need this kind of input, then you will be holding other things also I would imagine. The rules are the rules. Without guidelines, you have anarchy. As far as membership going away, well since I am having to welcome new members to the board at an average of 5 to 15 a day since Bruce took over the board, I can't see too many being alienated. If some are, I am troubled by that, but if the problem is due to Jack, Nick, and Bruce not allowing crap on the site that is not appropriate, well I have to question, is it a lose at all really
Acting like boys with our toys is fine, acting like men and being responsible when here, is mandatory. I find it interesting that one lady in our community here spoke with accuracy in saying its demeaning to women. You can have fun, you can be witty, and you can tell jokes, but use some degree of maturity in the choice of your actions. And if what you do isn't sanctioned by the moderators, then accept the fact and move on. If Jack or Nick were concerned, I'm sure the silent majority had its doubts as well.
I personally think Nick and Jack should have their salaries increased by 100%, but then doubling nothing is still nothing. With the amount of work they put into making this board a great place for free advice, they deserve a ^5 at the least. As you can all see by the amount of action this thread has drawn, they really could be better spending their times and energies in doing things in regards to their own businesses (yes, they are doing real, meaningful jobs). But they are here out of a desire to better the community of Buick owners. A very selfless act I think.
Ok, that is enough of my rant. Boys, play nice, keep it clean, save your questionable stuff for your e-mails, and listen to the moderators. They really are great people. If you can't follow or understand the guidelines, I'm sure Nick can make it very clear again.

FYI.... Jack , Nick or myself do not need Bruces or each others blessing to lock or delete a thread. As far as the committee remark , we will get together on some issues be it a thread or ways to make TB.com bigger , stronger and the most informed Turbo Buick site on the net.
So as for me if a committee vote is needed on the thread in question then I agree with Jack.
