How about an alternate MAF sensor?

I know we can use the LT1-LS1 MAF sensors on our cars, but we have to buy the translator with it. Is it possible for someone to make an upgrade similar to the Granatelli sensor they make for the LS1 cars? It shouldn't be too hard I would think. This way we wouldn't have to pull parts from other cars just to make our cars better. I remember someone working on something like this a while back, but haven't seen it come into play yet. Any thoughts?
