What "desensitising" a knock sensor gets you......
"Back in the day" some peeps tried many ghetto methods of "desensitising" the knock sensor, to keep it from retarding the timing. The most popular one that I heard of was 3 or 4 wraps of Teflon tape on the threads, or using a close nipple and pipe coupling to isolate it from the engine.
This is by far the most ghetto method I have seen! And the result......

That's how I bought the car with a fresh rebuilt engine with only a few miles on it....
Motor was from a "reputable, experienced" engine builder....

Crazy I think most guys just took the knock sensor out if it became an issue. Those can be finicky.

I think blown headgaskets are a bigger deal.
If I see kr, I'll try replacing the sender first!
And see what it does.
I believe the Holley system allows changes to knock sensitivity. That could be a recipe for disaster too. This happened in 12 miles! Bought it new motor, not running. Replaced all other sensors, not knock, my bad!
O2, TPS, TEMP, MAP, all were original! TIMINATOR

I never had an issue with an issue with a knock sensor. But I know plenty of people that have. They had deep 9 second cars. So they tuned with other methods and had their engines live a long time.

I think i know what the problem was with that setup, you needed to crank that wingnut one more turn.

I wonder what the valve was originally for?
It was PACKED with rust!
