Engine block front cover gasket pin?

I noticed my new build does not have this. I am in the process of replacing the front cover with a TA.

a long 1/4' bolt will have a section thats not threaded ..cut the head and threads off to make a cheap dowel

GM used 1/4 inch hole and it requires, a smaller pin.
A standard 1/4 inch dowel will be too tight.

True but Iv'e used them many times with no problem. A stock GM one is about 3ths. smaller.

i always run a 1/4 bit though the crank sensor bracket

Yes the one from hardware store is bigger grind it down a little.
