Looking for the PROM (or ECM with PROM) for a 1981-1983 Turbo Regal - carburated. Preferably a 1983, but will settle for 1981/82.

Several parts would work between 1981 and 1983. Waiting for some documentation for 1982 and 1983.

For 1981, this is what I see (Monte Carlo wiuth 231-3 turbo engin, assuming other "A" body will be similar):

ECM is 1224770 or 1224810 ( I see the two listed)
PROMS are 5974DR or 5691HP (california)

If I am correct, then, the ECM would be marked:

1224770 HP
1224770 DR
1224810 HP
1224810 DR

the ecm part #'s help...there's about 80 results for the 4770 ecm on ebay now. even one "new" unit in the standard box for $47.50 OBO.

search results for 1224770 ecm => 1224770 ecm for sale | eBay

and there's about 50 of the 4810 ecms on ebay link => 1224810 ecm for sale | eBay

i did not start to sort thru the listings looking for prom codes. perhaps its a start.

also thought the way to get the prom you want would be to find someone who has one and duplicate it. many decades ago I used a Needham Electronics SA20 (E)eprom burner. there are sa20's on ebay, but that's a path maybe for later.

the '83 turbo regal 3.8L used ecm 122-6025. rock auto link below...

there are a bunch of 6025 ecms on ebay. don't know the prom id for 1983 as my GM spreadsheet only goes back to 1985.

Checked all these listings, PROMs not included with reman, used ones have unknown PROMs or for other engines. GM did not do their best move by not making the ECM/PROM combo a unique part number.

But I got someone here who had a couple of turbo carb ECMs, including a 4770 for a turbo car with PROM.

So I think I'll be OK!

Thanks for checking!

did a search for 1983 Buick Regal 1226025 ecm...from the conti US salvage yard list, found one from a 1983 Regal. no idea of prom code. perhaps a call to Ed's in North Carolina would help. use the CR2A12 # as the reference #. hopefully the person local to you has what's needed.

just saw your above note. check out the middle of the attached image...

Indeed, I checked car-part.com, lots of potential - we would need to know what PROMs these three-letter-acronyms on these Riviera ECMs refer to. At least that's an indication, others will just list the ECM part no which is useless unless you already have the PROM you need. I have a 1982-88 Buick parts catalog coming my way, that would help to find out.

Excellent. wasn't sure this would yield positive results so quickly. glad you had a local connection with some ecm's and someone got you a copy of of part #'s listings to sort it out.
