Cooling issue.

Hoping someone can help me out here.
I just installed a new water pump, hoses, and radiator with dual fans. I filled the rad and started the car. The coolant went down a bit and I continued to top off the rad. The car did heat up and then cooled back down so I'm assuming the thermostat is opening fine since it did cool down, but the main problem (if it even is one) is that the radiator hoses are still soft. It doesn't seem like there is any fluid in them.

Any ideas?

I spoke to Richard Clark on this and he said it takes some time (couple of cycles before it builds pressure and hose gets hard) hopefully I understood him right. I was always under impression as soon as you star it radiator builds pressure

That's the impression I was under too. I'll drive it a bit, keep an eye on the temp and see how it goes

I just warmed it up again. Got the temp up to ~175 and then it immediately cooled to 150 or so. Seems to be working fine, I may just be a little overly concerned

How is is when ac is on? I'd throw a pressure test on it just in case

Your're probably still getting false readings. It takes quite a few heat cycles to get all the air out ESP if you haven't drilled a steam hole in the thermostat. Any steam that hits your sending unit will give a higher than actual reading.

Earl, being the board "sex advisor", told me, that if your hose is soft, add a couple Viagra tabs....:smug:

You are checking the hoses with the radiator cap on right? I know its a stupid question but i had to ask.
