Anyone ever successfully overhaul a center cap? Have my old one that got damaged due to some brake cleaner, was wondering, instead of tossing it, could it be painted? anyone paint one and what paint did you use, thanks

Never done it but considered many times.... Clean it real well and scuff with a scotch Brite pad. Then get some trim black. I did the trim on some GN wheels and they turned out well. Still look good. Paint probably 5 years old.

I have. Keep in mind, I wasn't looking for perfection. These were for the factory set. Not the type held on by the lug nuts. For the center I used the same gorilla glue mentioned later to attach the overlay to the center cap.

1) Hit the cap with some 1500 grit sandpaper.
2) Clean of the cap with lacquer thinner, Simple Green, etc.
3) Sprayed mine with Rust-Oleum 2X Canyon Black satin. 3-4 light coats.
4) Installed new TRCustoms wheel cap center.
5) Use Gorilla Glue adhesive(I used the caulk tube size) around rim of cap & where it connects to the wheel.
6) Place weight on center cap to get it to adhere to rim.
7) Wait for as long as possible.
8) You're done! Re-install wheel.
