Best way to upgrade fuel pump

Hello everyone, hope you're holiday season is going well! Quick fuel system question, I did search but there's so many variables. I'm close to maxing out the duty cycle with my single Walboro 255 pump and 60# injectors combination. Looking to upgrade to 80# injectors (high impedance to work with Sportsman Xfi).

My question is, can I just replace the pump with a better single? If so, which one is best?

or

Could I add a second Walboro 255? If so, what else would I need? (currently I have the old hotwire kit from circa 2008)

As always, I appreciate everyone's time and opinions... thanks!

I know it seems like a large investment to go with a double pumper, but by the time you get the larger pump and most likely run at least a new return fuel line (hose) and possibly a new intermediate wire harness your most of the way there.

A 510lph double pumper will go a long way and may be the last setup you'll ever need.

Just my thoughts.

Racetronix use to sell the connector for the double pumper seperate, but you will still need additional wire connectors on your hanger/ sending unit, an additional hot wire kit and a pressure (Hobbs) switch, plus the Racetronix hangers/ sending unit flow more than stock.

Full throttle is a good place to get Racetronix stuff as well as many others that may be closer to you.

Good call GX1, I appreciate your thoughts. I'm going to think about it for awhile and upgrade in the spring... likely to go that route. This thing just keeps snowballing! Thanks again for the info...

You're welcome. The other thing I like about the Racetronix sending units are you can get a fuel level resistor compatible for a digital dash car.

Its just a guess that only 25% of TR owner will care about this feature.

Either the double pumper or large single should have a fresh hotwire kit. No sense having all that potential and not supplying the needed power. As far as the pump(s) go, I would rather have extra than end up lean. Since we have a return line system extra is not a huge problem unless the return line is too small.

Full Throttle Speed has announced the Walbro 525 released which is basically a Hellcat pump in a Racetronix Turbo Buick Sender. That with the Hotwire Kit as Pronto suggested will feed a ton of fuel. You will need to have a larger return line to get the fuel pressure under control outside of boost but I feel the line kits currently offered are overpriced. Its one of those things were they save you the legwork but "pay" for it. a search will show you all the fittings you need for a good return line. The factory feed line has gone in the 9's.

Cheap route would be get a dw 300. Or do it the right way and redo the whole system if you plan to keep upgrading. This system is sweet. Tom just did a post on it. These are some of his pictures

Full upgradeable if you want to go DW400 now and it's easy to make it a dbl pumper if you want down the road.

Man that is one sexy setup, thanks for sharing! I’ll make sure to read his entire post... this is the way to go

Old as the original stuff and even the replacement stuff is, id go with new -8 feed and -6 return and the dw400 and wiring to run it. That fancy hanger with the an fittings sure looks nice. I'd be inclined to so that if you really want it fed well.
I bet it is a cool grand in parts and some more to install. Much cheaper than a broken engine.

Thanks for the reply, a buddy of mine was just talking about this too. I’ll check it out

Anyone have any flow data on that over the 400? I haven't looked at it yet. The above system can have the 525 as well.

The 400 will support alot of power

I picked up a walbro 450 new for around $110 and swapped the stock vent and return lines when I installed it. I have 80lb injectors like you and they will be maxed out before the pump.

That's what we did on one car as well. Works damn good.

Looked at the data. I'll take a DW 400 for the warranty over the walbro 525. Not much to be had

Can you post the Walbro company comparison chart too?
I asked a good buddy on here which was best and he sent me an independent chart comparison of multiple pumps. The DW pump numbers are closer to my chart and the Walbro numbers are lower than my chart. There is a bigger gap in those pumps.

Where is Richard Clark???

Ok, stupid question here but please humor me. Provided the fuel lines and wiring are sufficient (upgraded), what's stopping someone from removing the Walboro 255 pump and sliding in the Hellcat 525? The pump itself is on amazon for 130 bucks. Just thinking out loud... wondering if it would physically fit into the hangar assembly.
