I will be repairing/updating the alarm system on the GNX soon and I would like to know if someone on the board is a professional alarm installer that I could use as a resource for tips etc. I am very familiar with the basics, but hoping for some pro advice.

If you can help, please email direct, thanks!

Hey, don't mean to hijack this thread but info might be useful to all. I want to go the GPS tracking alarm system route. I have talked to a dealer and he sells Viper, Rattler, and something else that seem to be made by the same company. I want to purchase it and install it MYSELF, but he won't sell me it without installation. ZAM 70 do you know where I could purchase a kit ( at maybe a good price ) so I could install it myself.
Thanks to who ever might have info.
Tarey D.
Car already has a Code alarm and my deterrants but if they tow it I want to be able to find it and KI$$ :D whoever took it. Left out a couple LLs

Mike:

Zam and I have spoken via email and I am confident you cant go wrong with his advice. I'd hook up with him.

I used to do this stuff, but am not up on the new stuff, so I'd rather you dealt with someone who is.

Hey Jim,

Thanks, I hooked up with him and getting some good info thanks!

I thought you dropped off the face of the earth! I sent you a reply last month and I *KNOW* you didn't read it carefully because if you did, you would not let me off so easy. :D I'll send it again!!

Thanks Joseph. Mike I sent you back a reply from the e-mail you sent me. Like Joseph (gofstbuick) said I do this evey single day. I have well over 16 years experience. Hope it helps.

Here's some replys I've sent to mkazigian & GN ERGY - thought the rest of you might benefit from them. It's long and maybe a little repititive since it's 2 seperate email replys...

The best way to hide an alarm
system is to integrate the wires into factory looms.
Make them blend in (you can run them along with OEM
wiring, just bury the alarm wires in the middle of the
factory wires and black wire tie it all together every
few inches) If there are few/no factory looms, loom
it ALL. You can either make it ALL look factory or
all look aftermarket.
Another PITA trick is wire the entire thing in the
same colored wire. It's a pain to trouble shoot but,
it'll be a pain for them too.
Don't soley rely on the alarm to keep some one from
stealing the car. Have a simple manual interupt
circuit somewhere out of the way.
As far as the "brain" unit. Install it some where
really different/odd. Most alarms are installed in
the drivers side dash area (everyone knows this).
DON'T put yours there.
It's a PITA but put the control unit in the trunk,
under a seat, in a side panel etc...some where that
doesn't make sense. Remember, if it makes sense to
you, it will make sense to them.
Install multiple sirens, at least one up front
underhood somewhere (out of reach/sight as much as
possible) and one in the rear some where. If
possible, use ALPINE sirens from their upper model
alarms. They are obnoxiously loud and when you run
two together, they really make a racket (I've always
disliked DEI sirens). You can also install some
sirens INSIDE the car as well (they make small ones
specifically for this purpose, they are called "pain
generators") makes it hard to think.
Keep things out of reach and hard to identify. Use
multiple power points and install a backup siren (self
powered).

ALWAYS run a backup/secondary power system. It should
be a dedicated/isolated battery for the alarm system
ALONE. They are fairly small ones avaiable as well.

In my last car I ran dual car batteries relay
isolated. One for for the car and the other was for
aftermarket electronics (stereo, alarm and misc toys).
This way, if the main battery ran dead or was
disconnected, the accessory battery would still have a
charge and remain operational. The ACC battery was
only connected to the cars electrical system when the
engine was running (for charging). When the key was
shut off it was 100% isolated. Kick ass way to do it
and virtually impossible to defeat with out ALOT of
trouble.

Tarey,
Email me if you still have problems buying a Viper, Rattler, or other DEI products. A friend of mine is the DEI rep for the southeast for over 10 years. I am sure he can probably get you a unit.
