This is the specially made Resistor Bulb which was a factory option on very few G body cars. It replaces the standard bulb and socket used on the "Volts" indicator. Here is what it does: If your bulb should burn out, your alternator won't charge. Call a flat-bed....Battery dies, car stops- many of you have had this happen. Replace alternator, battery, cables, only to find out a bad bulb was the culprit.

So, what GM did is create this special socket that incorporates a resistor, so that if the bulb quits working (which is a common problem), the alternator still charges, as the field is energized via the resistor. This provides a safeguard for your turbo Regal, and will function even if the bulb fails. Fits in place of the original twist-lock lamp socket on your dash cluster. Works similar to the Caspers Field Fix, but much simpler and compact.

Cheap insurance, and if you ever had your lamp fail, you'd wish you had it.
