my dad has an elcamino SS. I know its been done before but I want it to use as a truck and haul ass , with full gn interior hood and doors grafted on. im sure this will be a long project but I already have a lot of he parts to convert it

Should be a fairly easy engine swap. As long as you have all the donor parts. Engine, trans, wiring harness. A few tips in case you didn't already know:
  • The Elky's came with the 4.3 tbi, so a fuel injection tank and sending unit/pump hanger are readily available. (Spectra from Rock Auto)
  • Depending on the year you may have to add an extension to the Drivers Side frame rail for the trans cross member.
  • Fuel lines are on different sides.
  • The Buick sheet metal nowhere near matches the El Camino's, but you know that already. Allot of surgery will have to be done. But if you are a good fabricator and welder, then it should be easy, just time consuming.
  • The Elky is longer (wheelbase), so if you had plans on using exhaust from a TR, it will need to be modded for the added length in the wheelbase
The rest is small stuff. With both vehicles schematic in hand, it it an easy swap.

Good luck!

NP, with the 87, it should have the correct mounting holes for the 2004r tranny xmember in it, if it doewn't already have a 2004r.

Good luck.

I remember reading that article. The biggest turnoff for me is the lower body line. The front half of the fender still has the Buick, while the the rear half and the rest of the car still has the Chevy. But I think the Elky with the 86-7 front end is BA.

As far as the drive shaft. If you use the 8.5" rear, then you will need to shorten the driveshaft.
