I have a 2000 4x4 Dakota that just had the front Ball Joints replaced @32,000 miles. ( it's under warranty till 36,000) I brought it in the first time because it sounded "loose" going over bumps. So now it makes a clunk noise whenever I put the brakes on @25-30mph moderatly, not locking them up, but moderate braking.

Any idea what this is? The clunk comes from the front wheel area, the noise is sorta a higher pitched clunk not a thud or anything, almost like a spring sound, kinda.

Just wondering if any of you guys have had experience with somthing similiar. Thanks.

there is a bulletin for torsion bar pop that replaces the torsion bar anchors and in some cases the trans crossmember. could also be pads loose in the caliper bracket banging around. HTH

yeah, I was thinking a possible torsion bar problem, my old Jimmy had the same prob. Thanks alot, very helpful.

Loose caliper? Shock? Sway bar? Loose lug nuts!

No experience with that truck per se, but check the basics.
