160 thermostat

Autozone part # 3846 for the thermostat cost about $7-$8 and no trimming involved! Part has to be ordered.

What's the hole for?
I'm not 100% positive, but I think that the hole allows a little water to go through while close. This keeps the temp from really spiking up before it decides to open thus allowing a more stable and uniform temp during warm up.

Just wondering because my 160 took a shit & I replaced with a 180 but didnt drill & it works perfect, so much better & for some reason runs down the highway between 162-165. Gonna pull it & drill it just to be safe since it is highly recommended. Thanks for the info guys.

Drill a 1/8" to 3/16" bypass hole through the T'stat & mount the hole at the 12 o'clock position. Done!

Does the hole need to be in the actual thermostat or in the outer sheet metal area?

I drill the smallest hole I can. Typically 1/16.

I also went back to 180 stats in both cars.
