    Throttle body seals

17mm X 10 mm X 5 mm is the size. 17 mm = .669" Seal recess ID = Can't remember and all my cores have already been machined. As I posted earlier the seal is appx .010" larger than the recess. You only need around a .001" press fit.

    Throttle body seals

Yeah if you just squeeze them in you aren't getting all the sealing force applied to the throttle shaft that's possible if the metal shell wouldn't have been crimped down closer to the neoprene.

    Throttle body seals

Well yeah you 'can' force them in but they're compromised when the metal shell is crimped by the excessive interference fit closes the gap surrounding the neoprene sealing surface. That gap is needed b/c boost pressure enters there and forces the neoprene against the throttle shaft.

    Throttle body seals

Just wanted to correct something in this thread. The Harwal seals actually are .012" larger than the seal recess. The ASTM standard for a seal of that size would call for about a .001" press fit, not 10+ times that amount. When I rebuild GN TBs the seal recesses are machined larger to match the...

    TB halfshaft mod question.

BTW the picture of the bent aluminum throttle plate here is the reason you don't do a half shaft on a TB using the stronger brass throttle plate.

    TB halfshaft mod question.

Here's a throttle plate I removed from a Buick GN TB that's made out of 6061-T6 Aluminum. The car had a cam sensor problem that caused a backfire through the intake. The half shafted throttle shaft survived the backfire and was re-used.

    Throttlebody shaft repair

Well EGRs are easy to replace and not too much. Why the smoke test shows it bad and the diaphragm seems to hold vacuum is beyond my level of experience with such devices.

    Throttlebody shaft repair

All the test showed is that the diaphragm is good for holding vacuum. Could the smoke be coming from the vacuum hose? How tight did it fit on the metal nipple? How much pressure is the smoke being applied under? Since the diaphragm is sealed to the vacuum source (proven with the test) I'd have...

    Throttlebody shaft repair

EGR test; Remove the vacuum line, push up the bottom of the EGR diaphragm (engine cold of course) and place your finger on the metal vacuum nipple. Let go of the diaphragm. It will drop down part way then stop. Take your finger off the nipple and it will drop farther if the diaphragm is good...

Warning for Hot Air Ported Throttle Body Owners

Just following up on this. The turbo has been rebuilt, a new compressor wheel installed and is on it's way back to Eric now. I just wanted to mention that though this issue was probably caused by negligence on my part, the throttle body was sent out 6 years ago. It's a bad deal that this turbo...
