    Motor Week Retro - Run-down of 1987 G-bodies from 1987

Ran across this on the boob tube. The Monte Carlo's performance is referred to as "breathtaking" at 16.0 and 81mph!! Funny

    AutoZone and O'Reilly

Just need to rant for a bit. Be careful buying a battery from these places. DO NOT RELY ON THE STORE TO KEEP TRACK OF WARRANTY INFORMATION. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!! I have a 2-year old Duralast from AZ in my wife's Tahoe. AZ says they have no record of a battery being purchased, even though their...

    Open or closed lugs?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I searched and there were a mountain of results. I know the difference between open & closed lugs, but what are the advantages / disadvantages of each? I'm about ready to order yet another set of wheels and have a choice in lugs. Street car that...

    Overboost protection

Got to looking around on the web and found an article a guy had written about overboost protection. He used a Hobbs switch to kill the ignition if the designated boost pressure got to a certain point. The Hobbs he used was adjustable (I think they all are to some degree), and was wired in line...

    15" wheels

Looking for two 15" x 8" (4" bs) or 15 x 9" (4.5" bs) wheels for my 87 GN. I want something to put some 275 DR's on for racing. Not really picky about style of the wheels as they will only be on the car for trips to the track. I just don't feel good about running 275's on the stock 15 x 7...

    Chinese Wix Filters? For real?

I just bought eight wix filters for my diesel trucks (air, fuel, transmission, oil). Very surprised to find out the tranny filters were made in China. Dammit!! I was a little ticked. What filters are made in the USA any more? Is Baldwin all that's left? I don't expect any responses to this; just...

    E85 vs 93 only

Not that it's a big deal, I'm just very curious why my car ran like absolute steaming caca on 93 instead of E85 last night. Was headed out to the track (about 70 miles away) and had a little less than 1/2 tank of E85. Shoulda known better than to not fill up before leaving. Could not find e85...

    Manually locking the converter

First of all, I did search & was unable to find anything. I know many lock the converter manually using a switch during racing. Is it as simple as installing a switch in between the proper terminals on the ALDL port and flipping the switch when you want the converter to lock? I feel like I...

    Adhesive remover

What's a good adhesive remover for painted surfaces? I want to remove all of the stickers from my pick up truck, including what I think are the cheesy letters. The stickers were not much of a problem, but the letters are proving to be pretty difficult. It's a GMC if that helps. The letters have...

    Fresh horse meat!

Saturday night cruising and hit a red light while "trolling". Late 90's mustang pulls up next to me, but sounds pretty tame. I didn't even check to see if it was a GT. Since it wasn't sporting a hideously loud exhaust, I figured he didn't want any. Light turned green and he nailed it. Wow it was...

    Thinking about a non-lock

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I couldn't find anything with a search. I'm thinking about a 9.5" NL because it was recommended by a well-respected board member. It would be one of Dusty's cause I hear they're the shizz. Anyhow, does anything need to be done to a stock trans...

Holding 17 PSI on the foot brake

I've been dying to drive the car, but it's been raining like hell. Bored, I went out to the garage to start the car just to smell it burn. Decided to power brake it a little just to see how much boost I could hold. I was extremely happily surprised as I've done nothing special; just a vacuum...

    Favorite dyno video

By far my favorite video of an engine dyno!! Especially at about 0:32 and 1:05!! Talk about high PSI. I know it's Australian, but at least it's a Turbo 6.

GNX #054 - Mecum Auto Auction

Just letting you fortunate 547 know that #054 will be for sale at the Mecum event this week. Lot# S175 going up some time Saturday. It's supposedly a "never-dealer-prepped" example. It will be interesting not only if it sells, but also if they even televise it. Mecum usually goes to commercials...

    Closed loop / open loop

When the car is warmed to optimum temp, should it be in open or closed loop? Mine is hot now and is apparently in open loop at idle because o2s are steady at idle and cc's don't move. While actually driving, the o2's move around and cc's increase.
