We have lots of the later model gm trucks in our fleet and it's usually the encoder ring sensor on the transfer case motor. You can get the part separately from the motor. There was a programming update at one time but yours doesn't sound like that.

I agree with #2. The orange wire can break inside of the connection to the battery terminal very easily. Did you have the battery disconnected?

I mounted mine to the right of the spare tire well. That way the bolts go into the frame rail.

Unfortunately I know your pain too. I lost a adult child a year and a half ago. It's still very hard to even talk about it. I promise you will get through this. I don't think the pain will ever go away but it will change. I know talking helps when you're ready to. You putting this on here...
