    Building a 1964 Buick Special

Still waiting to see if several pages of vehicle updates will be recovered. In the interim, I made a couple of upgrades over the winter. First, I added a floor shifter. Although I like the stock column shifter, it wouldn't engage any gear past "drive". I have a couple extra gears than that...

What happened?!? I lost several pages of updates from 2020 and 2021. The new rear axle, front mount intercooler, methanol injection, coil over upgrades... ALL GONE!

    Building a 1964 Buick Special

This weekend, I added a little more "TR" content. I scored a set of very clean used aluminum drums from a local turbo Buick guy. The drums are 9 1/2" - just like the rear drums back in '64. I just slipped them over top the existing brakes, and readjusted. I'll try to get full size images up...

I've finished the "easy" part of this winter's upgrades (the new seat covers from TMI). The front seat also uses their foam, which provides a bucket-like feel. They are very comfortable. The color is pearl white with grey velour inserts, which is very nice with the stock door panels and carpet...

Been working with a few new photo filters. If the picture of the car looks better than the actual car, you know you've found a good filter! I'll need to make some upgrades this year, so stay tuned. The engine mounts are shot (I used the stockers from the original '64 225 V6), and upgrading...

    '86-'87 Engine Frame Brackets

Looking for the steel brackets that connect between the rubber engine mounts and the frame cross-member. I figure this will be much simpler than fabbing or modifying the stock frame stands on my '64 Special. Feel free to contact me with price/availability to zip 48350 (SE Michigan).

A little customization to the American Torq Thrusts. The decals came from a vendor called 3dcarstickers.com. They take a while to arrive due to them being eastern Europe, but they were worth the price (under $10!).

    Building a 1964 Buick Special

Opinions, please! I had an opportunity to mount a set of Vintage Wheel Works V45 wheels (similar to American Torq Thrusts) over the weekend. Any comments pro/con?

    Building a 1964 Buick Special

Took the ‘64 to a local show today. It’s been unusually cool and rainy here in SE MI, and I was looking forward to seeing some cars. It was a participant-judged event, and I only knew a few people there, but saw some cool cars and met a few people. What I wasn’t expecting was placing in my...

    Building a 1964 Buick Special

So the trans issue was actually NO SECOND GEAR. A combination of a smoked band, disintegrated 1-2 accumulator spring, and a few worn 3-4 clutches were the culprits. I just had a reputable local trans builder refresh it. Each time I do something to this car, I can’t believe how much better it...

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

I got the transmission reinstalled tonight. In addition, I had a fellow user look at the TV cable housing and suggest it looked out of adjustment. If I’m not mistaken, the cable should provide full TV activation at full throttle. I adjusted accordingly, and now full throttle equates to full TV...

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

The inspection is done. 1) Smoked band 2) Slightly burned 3-4 clutches (a few) 3) Disintegrated 1-2 accumulator spring The repair estimate is very reasonable, so I’m quite happy. I’ll report back in a week or so (after reassembly) to let all know how it worked out.

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

Dropped off the tranny at a reputable builder today. We had a good conversation about it, which mirrors closely with some of the latter things discussed on this thread. I'm a little disappointed in myself with regards to the problem solving. It took somebody on this thread to tell me to take a...

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

I checked the TV cable today. It is hooked up properly in the trans, and when a helper fully opened the throttle, the TV lever arm went to full travel. So the cable seemed to be correctly adjusted. However, I just got a chance to get a good look at the inside of the pan, as I was emptying the...

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

So tell me about TV adjustment and low pressure... An incorrect adjustment in which direction will cause low pressure? Does the photo above support this (with the cable housing showing so many ridges?

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

The filter DOES have the inlet facing down. The filter came with the Hughes trans pan as a kit. So I think I'm OK there. So I checked around and found a good builder in my area. After explaining the symptoms, and looking at a fluid sample, he's pretty sure it's a second gear band as well. I...

    Soft 1-2 Shift Problem

It is quite possible that I am mistaking a soft 1-2 shift with a non-existent 2nd gear. It may very well be going directly from 1st to 3rd. With that, I've found a thread on another site that seems to describe exactly my symptoms. See link below - 200-4R Similar Issues Thread Assuming this...
