Large amount of internal carbon

I’m currently in the process of installing champion ported iron heads and a champ ported race intake. Right from when I had the plenum off I could see it as the egr port in the intake was plugged with carbon. I then proceeded to remove the intake and valve covers. There is a lot of carbon in the intake, and Intake runners. What causes this? Is it anything to be worried about? Intake valves not sealing? I’ve heard it happens when the egr is disabled by the chip? I don’t know what chip is in the car seeing as there is no markings on it. The car only has 66k miles.

Thanks!

looks like normal buildup to me. you would have less if you had alky on the car. anyways install your parts and you'll be fine. later do a leak down test and see what that shows but i wouldn't worry about it. also you going to replace that small turbo?

Eventually yes. Only going to be running 20-23 psi. But am looking for a 6262 or similar

Looks normal. The EGR puts exhaust gas into the intake and there's going to be carbon in that gas. No EGR no exhaust going into the intake should be carbon free.

So the new intake has the block off plate. So there shouldn’t be much? It is also disabled in the new 6.1 chip
