That sounds reasonable only in the sense that BEFORE you tightened the rod, the wastegate was so loose that it allowed bypass at all times. If this was the case, then the turbo could be spinning a bit faster now and causing "less vacuum". This could also be the reason it spools faster now...

My core was leaking and I bought a NAPA replacement that was not specified for a Turbo car. I believe they had a different part number for Turbo, but was either no longer available or expensive. The NA part fit with no issues, and is still in the car 10 years and 75k miles later.

The core is leaking too. Easy replacement. When you get all the screws and trim pieces for the cover out, there's one screw hidden down real low.. (been a LONG time, under a screen maybe??)
