Updating the TR6

Several guys have asked for the procedure. So I will post it here.

Updating is done with the Key off, the TR6 does not even need to be installed.

Most of the units in the field are version 1.2 if they are over a year old, and 1.4 if newer. To check
the version turn on Mode 2 while the key is on, the error light will blink the version.

First, you will need a USB cable, and remove the round plug from the side of the TR6.

get the software from my dropbox link: open the zip file and drag the folder within it out to the desktop or some other location.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/p4z6e6l6kom85cs/TR6 Update Files.zip?dl=0

the zip file contains a folder with the updater program, some driver files, and 2 update files 1.4 and 1.5a

1.4 is the current shipping version, 1.5a has the low voltage error turned off once the
engine is running so the unit will work with the FAST ignition cut limiter box.

To put the unit in reflash mode, turn on Mode 2 then plug in the USB cable. Windows will likely want port drivers, direct its wizard to the CDC driver .INF file that is in with the update files.

Once the driver is installed, there will be a COM port created.

Run the win_hc08sprg.exe program, select the port, select the update file and hit connect. Once the program connects to the TR6, hit Autoprogram and the software will reflash the unit.

Hopefully this all makes sense, post questions and we can walk thru it.

bob do you have any way of turning off the 250rpm pre cut on the 2 step
could do it on the standalone 2step

Bob, as you know the XFI has a built-in 2 step and we usually set it up to work with a release button for the trans brake solenoid.

In competition the 2 step release RPM is easily changed with a laptop when conditions require a slight more or less RPM release point which is my method.

My race car has a distributor, so my question is, can we use the same type circuit for the TR6 2 step activation instead of a distributor as my street car has a TR6 and XFI?

I do not plan on using an electric trans brake on the street car, just the foot brake and a momentary button for the 2 step activation.

Nick, it's my understanding that you can wire it the same I believe the orange wire like normal. Just like his old two step box with the momentary brake pedal switch.

Nick, for your setup, I would put the 2-step button in the left wing of the brake pedal. Perhaps with an arming switch in series if you want to be able to disable it.

for remote adjustment, we can do a couple things. One is the remote potentiometer adjustment of the 2-step RPM, so no laptop required to adjust.

Or we could use the 2-step trigger output on the xfi to control the 2-step trigger input on the TR6,

or, you could use the xfi 2-stepper box with the TR6.

Thanks Bob, I will get with one of my local electrical- type guys and will probably experiment with the various methods you mentioned.

Like the race car, my street car is a "mule" for going into new or different parts and methods that I can use for my customers.

Brent, you know better than to let me mess with wires on your car, especially orange ones

The set-up needs to be as "idiot-proof" as possible, and that means if it will work for me, my customers will also be able to figure out how to use it as well! :)
