Driveshaft install

Secret to getting this dang driveshaft installed. I thought it would go in easy. Not so much, did you guys have to force yours in?

Support the rear at the frame rails in front of the rear wheels. Let the rear axle down enough to create some slack in the driveshaft.

...Oops you're trying to install. Where's the snag?

I slide it as far as it will go into the trans, wheels off the ground(on jack stands of course), car in “N”, then you can turn & angle the U-joint, get it to go into axle yoke, & put straps on.

is this a OE shaft ? I have not seen a trans yoke twist but have read about it.
And if it OE it can have some buildup between the seal and bushings, making it hard to push past the bushings to get it into the rear yoke.

I am just having a super hard time getting the splines in. Car is jacked and I’m operating on my back

Mine just slid in.

Either with a twist of the splines or the shaft to get them to mesh.

Does the car make a lot of power? I've seen splines in the driveshaft and out put shaft of the transmission get bent or crooked I guess you would call it.

I have my driveshaft out a couple of times. Sliding into the Trans was very easy. So easy a monkey could do it, as they say on TV. My problem is always getting the U joint into the yoke.

Dose it go into the tail shift at all ? Like 1 in or 3 in. The yoke must be smooth and shiny all the way to the radios ,is it.
It will be twisted about 3 to 4 in back but should have been a little hard to remove

I have had stock trans yoke twist the splines a few times. You can usually look inside and see the twist.

Man, I just looked at the DS and it’s got a key way. This is not on my splines. At least…I don’t see it

Whats going on with the splines on the bottom of the picture. Looks like one is missing or chipped.

Not missing or chipped. It is a key way that rune the entire length. My question is this just so I can double check this. Does the stock tranny have a key way for this…I’m looking and do not see it on the tranny input shaft not can I feel it. I think they installed the wrong input shaft on the driveshaft it seems…am I correct in the reason why this thing isn’t possibly fitting. I’m pretty sure this is the answer, just a sanity check here

The trans slip yoke on for a 200r-4 does have a keyway. Did you try a little grease on the splines?

This is so weird. I could not feel the slot on the back of the transmission outout shaft. I will look yet again. I tried grease. I will try to line it up again after I locate the keyway on the output shaft. I even took a damn mirror to it.

27 spline is correct for a 200 trans
I will ask again is this the driveshaft that you removed? OE
and yes what looks like a keyway is correct the trans output shaft dose not have that.
and again will it start at all into the trans can you get it past the seal?
did you take a rubber mallet and gently try to persuade it in( please don't )
