Hey all. New here, first post. Just picked up an 85 GN and doing some exploration on the car.

I need help identifying this ecm. The Serv. No. 1227148 says its for 86/87 when I google it. I just want to confirm that this has been updated from the stock 85 ecm and will work with a scanmaster before I buy one.

I'm sure this is a noob question. I've got a lot to learn!
Thanks y'all.

Welcome aboard. Yes, it's a 86/87 ECM & a Scanmaster will work with it. Verify you have a 86/87 MAF or a LT1 / LS1 MAF & Translator. Also verify what chip is in the ECM (appears to be a Turbotweak). Also check & see which CCCI module & Coil you have.

Thank you! This is great info.

If that is a Turbotweak chip contact Eric at Turbotweak and he should be able to give you all the specifics of that chip. Link > Turbotweak Store
If you have a 86/87 Coil & Module then you will have an adapter plate under the Module (bolts to the bracket below). The 86/87 Module will have a 3 bolt pattern. The 84/85 Module will not have the aftermarket adapter plate and will have a 4 bolt pattern that affixes to the bracket. If the Module & Coil are an 86/87 then it would be rewired (possibly a CCCI Wiring Adapter) see Link > Caspers Electronics to accommodate the 84/85 wiring harness. These are some of the basic upgrades most Hot Air owners have done along with a Fuel Hot wire kit. Does the car have an Air Intake Sensor (IAT) on the air duct to throttle body - usually on the air intake elbow ???

Is this your first GN or do you have experience with the IC cars ??? Just curious as to you knowledge base.

Maybe a little introduction would help as a new member.

This is my first GN. New to these cars, but I have a pretty good understanding - just getting to know these motors. The fact that the ecm has been updated, maf & translator, and hot wire kit are already installed leads me to believe that most likely the module & coil have been done, too. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction - I will dig in when I get back to my garage today.

Here is picture of the engine as it sits now. I will take some better pictures and attach later:
