1G4GJ117XHP433997 --87 T-type Davison (Flint), MI => Re-bodied??? Re-VIN'd???

Lists lots of options but not the T tops code. Last line says it all, Rebuilt Title. May be an ok car but like a stripper, don't fall in love with her.

I saw this car, love the color! Wish it was closer to MD to check out.

I've loved a stripper or two..........

They took my money, but never my love.......... :cautious:

Bad news gals. I was a bit younger back then and could take the heartache........... and they are prolly dead now. (See the similarities?)

Don't get involved.

Maybe "Pimpin" SalvageV6 will buy it and turn it into a sweet ride...........

STAY AWAY, I've seen that car and while it is nice it is not real!

The seller clearly says that it's a "rebuilt" car... So once it's disclosed in the ad, where's the problem?? You already know what kind of vehicle it is before even leaving your house to go look at it. If you don't like that car, then just move on and find another one!

When I started this thread in November 2018, this car was not represented as RECONSTRUCTED...

no disclosure from seller, nothing on paperwork to show reconstructed vehicle.

paperwork at the time was clean title.

I was on a call for a few hours with a member here inspecting this car in detail. I advised to walk away.

powertrain is from a different car. body is from yet another different car - a T-top car. frame...who knows? didn't cut the floor to read it.

deck lid, driver's door and original VIN tag from dash transferred to this RECONSTRUCTED vehicle.

T-Tops are non-locking with blue panels - kind of funny when the rest of the interior trim pieces are grey. AND an interesting find on an 87 model.

Interior is brand new, but wrong material.

Amusing how a factory hardtop turbo Regal now has a factory T-Top body with an incorrect production date for the VIN.

If you read the thread from the beginning, you would be more up to speed rather than just reading the most recent comments;)

I just busted that assholes ad with a flag, and a nasty gram.
If we get enough flags, CL will automatically delete the ad.
So, everyone goto the ad and flag it.

Chuck just tap the flag so it goes black and that’s it?

I just sent him a message as well that the Turbobuick Community is a where of this and that it’s not a real car.Its Fraud and not selling a car with a Salvaged Title.

Even if it's a rip off?

Well people now know the "story". It's up to them to make that decision.
Now that we are on this type of thread this will NOT be the last car someone has put together. Case in point ... Old cars built around a VIN tag. ANYTHING can be fixed . ;)

Reconstructed / Salvage cars are fixed everyday. In my state if ya had a salvage car and its fixed ya bring it to the Dep of Safety for an inspection. They will want to see where the parts came from. DONE.

VIN swapping is illegal

Remember, it took one of our members to bust the guy when he first offered the car. He played dumb when asked questions on the car. READ THE WHOLE TREAD BEFORE YOU COMMENT. At least now that he has been exposed, he is selling it as a savaged car. Maybe my call to the Michigan police fraud unit helped him to be more honest. But as I'm writing this, I remember him telling me the car has a clean title. My mom said "once a rat, always a rat". Buyer Beware!!!!!!!

Because I did not become a member on this site to bash other people's cars. I have nothing to gain in doing that. Like my mom always said to me "If you don't have anything nice to say, then just don't say anything".
Claude.
Whatever man the guys trying to screw somebody why don’t you read what he is trying to sell before you say people are bashing his car.He isn’t being honest about the car.Do you not see that.

maybe overkill at this point, however, with pics gone from forum I'll repost them so someone doesn't buy this "creampuff" example not knowing it was RECONSTRUCTED FROM AT LEAST 3 OTHER REGALS; VIN PLATE WAS ILLEGALLY TRANSFERRED; AND HAD A CLEAN TITLE AFTER ALL THIS WORK WAS COMPLETED.o_O

or just not knowing what occurred to "rebuild" this vehicle. If the vehicle was represented as RECONSTRUCTED from the start, no one would have any issues. there would be a title issued illustrating the vehicle classification as such - different states use different words to convey the same - REBUILT; RECONSTRUCTED; and may also include the term SALVAGE. The presiding state's motor vehicle's dept or state police would be involved, as Grumpy noted, to review where the parts were sourced, legally, and a new VIN would be issued for the RECONSTRUCTED VEHICLE.

can't remove a VIN plate from the body, attach it to another body and pretend nothing happened. state police seize vehicles for that.

here is the original Craigslist ad from November 2018 - nothing about being RECONSTRUCTED...

that is a GM, factory cut Regal hatch roof
(yes, that reflection is the seller at the time and his truck) supposedly he just bought this Regal from the owner of this self-storage facility.)

Huh? funny how there is no hatch roof notation on the cowl tag. Oh, that's right. this was originally a hard top car. just unscrew those two sheet metal screws and move the cowl tag to the replacement body. no problem!

no one will ever know what all this means on the trunk sticker. Funny how there is no hatch roof code...
View attachment

Oh, wait a minute...deck lids got swapped all the time over the years. no one really paid any attention to those stickers with all that writing.

Whoops! hey, the body VIN matches the VIN on the trunk sticker. My goodness. How'd that happen? only the factory (and chop shops) have those special rivets to attach the VIN plate.

notice how in the current craigslist ad, there are no pics of the passenger side of the engine compartment. don't want you to see the hatchet job done on the A/C line when the original HARDTOP car was wrecked/stripped.

the car from GM was a non-posi rear end. what rear axle is in the car now... from the same vehicle that donated the matching engine and trans? or the one that donated the T-top body? or just something else picked up along the way...

the current craigslist ad is from a used car dealer. it appears this dealer is the one who now has the title listed as REBUILT. perhaps the nitwit trying to sell the car in 2018 unloaded this Regal at this dealer and cut his losses.

the documentation is here.

this Regal has been laying low for almost two years now...57 miles recorded since November 2018....laying low in that self storage locker waiting for the heat to fade away or hiding from the local LEO's who want to check-out those rosebud rivets used when the VIN plate was transferred from the original car and cut the floor to read the VIN on the frame.
