Wondering what people are using or what they would use for 1k rwhp. Not looking for a manual valve body want to put it in D and go.

I know a 200 can do it but looking at something more reliable

If your rear gear is on the lower side,powerglide.4l80e is another option.200 can and will do 1000hp with the righ parts and builder.

I have a fully built 200 from Lonnie. It's been holding up good but it won't last like some of the other transmissions.

My vote is the 4L80E, but it will not fit without moving the floor some. Strong and reliable for a car that you can beat on and then drive it across the country.

my vote would be for a 4l80e too..I saw one rated for 1500 the other day

If you feel that way then I would advise you to go to a glide and drop the gear back,it robs alot less power/handles more power than a 4l80e.

Give rossler a call and go through your goals,a terminator 3 should more than cover you from what I have seen in the cars up here

I vote call Lonnie for your next trans. This 200 has held together. He can build you what you want that will fit your needs

Was kind of leaning this way

Ive seen a 4l80e car around here hold 1200 hp but he's into it over $6k, not exactly budget friendly.

What about a powerglide and gear vendors od unit? You can tailor the gear set in the glide, put as much power as you can make through it and shift it into od for the highway travel or wild top end.
Seems some are making headway with the ford 6r80 so the 6l80e couldn't be far behind if you are into fooling with a computer to shift it.

I was just speaking with Len Freeman about a 4L80 behind a Stage 2 head motor making 1250 hp. He says it would work just fine.

His quote was less than $6000. Much less.

Keep in mind I was told that the rpm is the deciding factor between a 200 and 4L80. The Stage motor will rev up to 8000 rpm and that kind of rpm causes the clutches to self apply.

A 200 would work IF the same power is being made under 6000 rpm so I am told. Make no mistake there is a difference in price between 200 and 4L80 so weigh your options accordingly. In my example, the 4L80 would work on the street and strip, fully programmable with the ECM being used at no extra cost and be less money than the 200.

Not sure what this new cam will shift at but around 7k I think. I'll be using this 200 for awhile longer. I'm just worried with the refresh I might push it past its limit. I will get it refreshed from Lonnie and speak to him about my next step forward

There are lots of factors to consider. The 4l80 is heavier, bigger and needs a separate programmer unless you have a Holley ecm. Converters for them are more expensive than the most expensive ones for a 200. I wish a 200 could be converted to electronic to get rid of that stupid TV cable.

My stage only made 850 FW.
I had Sid Neal build a T400. Stock, for the most part. Converter restrictor, good q parts.
Ran it for a considerable time w/ slicks.. Street and track.
Only issue was the tail shaft bushing spun, and that was it, for issues.
It was FAR from $6K!
