To bracket race competitively I spent 20 grand on a 2500 HD truck and 7 grand on an enclosed hauler. Cost of racing each year ran about 10 grand...if I didn't break anything.

After every 5 gallons of C116 a new wide band and narrow band. And a set of plugs every other 5 gallons.
I was into Jeeps for about 20 years J=Just E=Empty E=Every P=Pocket
Not sure what BUICK = But got to be something like that too.

Yup that counts
You were an every weekend bracket guy I take it

Bracket, Armdrop and T and T's. Sold the GN, 2500 HD and the car hauler. Racing costs were spiralling out of control and several of the guys I raced with quit for the same reason. I retired at the age of 55 in December, and am currently looking for something slow to cruise around in. If I were to buy another TR it would be to tempting to mod it, as it takes very little to get these cars to run high 6's in the 1/8th or high 10's in the 1/4 all day long. I don't trust myself If I were to buy another TR. :)

I get asked this a lot:
You have done a lot of work. Why don't you race your car?

My reply:
Because I have nothing to prove to anyone, and not interested in impressing anyone.

Annual cost doesn't matter. Car, trailer, tow truck . . . All paid for.

Sad to hear you are out of the game.

Racing takes a physical toll. A 3 day race weekend went like this. Friday afternoon...after getting up at 4 am and working all day, I'd drive ten minutes north of my house and pick up the trailer at my friends farm where I kept it and drive back to the house. I'd then load up the car, roll around tool cabinet and upright roll around compressor and drive one hour to the track. I'd then unload the car, set the tire pressures and check the weather station to set the AF. I'd then make a pass and check the PL log. If I found no anomalies then I'd make one more practice pass. I'd then check the PL log and load the car and everything up and drive one hour home. I'd unload the car and everything and bring the trailer back to my friends barn, drop it off and head home. I'd be up at 5am Saturday morning, drive north and pick up the trailer and return home. I'd load up and drive the hour back to the track, unload, set the car up and make my 3 dial in runs in the morning. I'd then race till eliminated. I'd load all up again, drive the 1 hour home, unload and take the trailer back. I'd repeat it all over again at 5am Sunday morning for the Sunday race. If I hurt anything on either day then it would be a full on thrash during the week to make the next weekend race that was closest to me. Looking back, I don't know how I physically did it all those years. I had the time of my life...and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If I could roll the clock back, I'd do it again.

But Scooby Doo don't tell you he had a free mechanic for 15 years. he even has his own You Tube channel, from what i showed him. sells the car never to hear from him again, what friend. good luck on life.

sounds like a haul ....you do it because its fun....when you start asking yourself why am i doing this? its time to find something else....that is pretty much how i gave up motocross....guess the same can be said for most anything.....free mechanic or not

Dan, I've dropped by your place several times, but your truck has been gone, but you don't have a cell to let you know I was in town. I've called you several times and kept in contact. I've always thanked you on the other board as well as the others over the years on numerous occasions, and I always said I couldn't have done it without everyone's help. It was always a team effort, and I always mentioned that. Anytime someone walked up to me and needed their TR worked on, I always pointed them in your direction. If you change your mind on terminating our friendship, then you're free to call or PM anytime.

As an outsider....i will make an assumption that when you guys were a team and there were some great times to be had out at the track as well as the garage. Thats the kind of relationship a lot of us live for. Just saying......one day all we will have is our memories of the good times.

I forgot to add the cost of ZDDP plus to my oil change as part of track operational cost as well
