Replacing the timing belt ?

How big of a project is that ? reason I ask is , other than it needing replaced I have a ticking sound in the front of the engine for a few min on a cold start but goes away . Thanks in advance Keith
 
There use to be a step by step instructional on here years ago. Not that bad but if you have to drop the oil pan and the cross over is in the way adds a bit of depth to it. I look at it as a part time 2 day job and I'm meticulous and work slow.

That's for the timing chain and gear, don't know about the belt, never seen one on these. ;)
 
I did mine along with the front cover seal and rear main seal.
I thought it was more time consuming than difficult. A lot of stuff to take off to get to the task.
 
You will need a cam sensor tool, plastic feeler gauges for setting the crank position sensor, you will also have to decide if you're going to keep the plastic chain tensioner ( probably not), maybe replace your "s" hose while you're at it. My turbo housing was clocked on it rubbing a hole in it. I think that there may be a cam sensor mod and refurb program out there ( GNS Performance). You can consider oil pump mods now, you will have to come up with some setup to prime the motor, I use an old modded distributor. Make sure the dots line up on the timing chain sprockets. Then, not to scare you but the first time that you try to start it and it doesn't crank, you will think about those dreaded dots again. I don't think that I have ever thought about changing my timing chain except when I wiped #3 lobe on the cam, and I had close to 96K on that one. My timing belt on the Danny Bee set up is different tho, I was worried that after about 6 years ,it was time for a new one.
 
Take your time and double check everything you do. Most importantly is to setup the oil pump correctly and PRIME it before you start the motor. Verify oil pressure is good once it starts. Did this job twice, don’t ask LOL

I think I packed the crap out of the oil pump with vaseline iirc to help the prime.
