Too much positive camber with BMR A-Arms

Is it possible they are trying to fix a problem with the stock suspension like bump steer or something similar?

Nah. You can't fix bumpsteer with the upper ball joint. The more I look at them, the more I'm agreeing with the others that these are actually a set of arms for a different car. He got shipped the wrong parts.

Got the alignment done, just told the tech to keep it simple since I knew it wasn't gonna be permanent. So really he just did a basic check and fixed the toe. Not in spec, but again not permanent.

Still shows that with way less shims the car actually has more negative camber than the spec asks for, v.s. way too much positive camber.

Definitely proves that my car might be a bitch, but there is nothing wrong with it to explain the camber issues.

Still waiting on a response from BMR.

Ending up calling them, seems like a cool shop. Getting a return label and sending these back. They offered to reimburse the full price, but I'm asking that an inspection be done first. The product seems very high quality and I don't want to go through a whole new search and a whole new vendor if I can get what I originally ordered.

Also, if the arms go back and the inspection shows everything is right on their jigs...then maybe there is something screwy with this bitch and getting arms from someone else would have the same problem??

Either way, I'd like the peace of mind to know what is going on.

You got decent numbers with a set of stamped stock arms. There is no variation on those. GM Stamped millions of them out between 78 and 2004 when the S10 finally went away, and you can still buy them from the circle track people like Speedway Motors. If you got decent numbers with stock arms, then your frame isn't bent to an appreciable degree. Your car isn't jacked.

Let us know what they say. I think with what we've just seen using your stock arms, it's pretty clear you got arms for a different car. Possibly a second gen F-Body?

Turned out the upper arms were a new design and the welding jig was set up incorrectly. BMR confirmed the issue by installing them on a test car, so that is good news for me.

Haven’t got a lead time on when they’ll get the new jig set up, so not sure when I can get the replacements.

Apparently the lowers are okay, so those will get shipped back. Might install them with stock uppers just to see what happens.

When I get more info on the uppers I’ll post again. So far BMR has been good to work with and very responsive. They’ve eaten probably $100 of shipping costs and are willing to keep working at it, which is cool.

Thats cool.

That would definitely mess with your head not knowing the problem.

Quick update, BMR did the geometry work and built the first set of new upper arms. They are waiting on some laser cut panels that should be in by 08/27/2019. From there, they will finish the fab work and test them on their car. :crossesfingers:

Does that mean they listed and sold parts to a car that wasn't even been designed yet? WT*
Isn't suspension their core competency?

I should say they "redid" the geometry on the new jig after confirming it was incorrect. My understanding is they had a design modification with a new top panel and created new jig. They had the correct geometry on the old design but somehow didn't get it right on the new one.

I actually asked about this because the picture of the upper arms on Summit is different than the BMR site, if I got the old ones everything would have been fine. Maybe I should ask for some $$$ as a beta tester. ;)

Not sure what to say, if they can't get parts within their core competency right. I mean, BMR is not a mom and pop shop is it?

They've had some rather nasty public spats over on Lateral-G.net and some of the other Pro-Touring boards. I don't know how serious those were in real life as the disputes turned into your typical internet keyboard warrior pile-on, and the truth got obscured.

But that said, I've never seen a similar episode involving Ridetech, SpeedTech or UMI, at least not about anything that wasn't an honest mistake and was corrected immediately. Usually when you hear about them screwing up, it's part of a glowing review about how well they handled the screwup and fixed everything.

So, your mileage may vary.

Quick update.

All R&D is done, prototypes confirmed on test car. Apparently the next step is getting everything operationalized, tube jig and cad work for top plates all done. Was told the laser shop was backed up, so not sure when the production parts will be ready.

Not great news, but progress is being made.

Definetly frustrating. IMO they should give you the set for free!!!
