Spark Plugs for TA heads and TR6

I have a thread going over in the performance ECM upgrade section but wanted to post my question here to hopefully get some additional exposure.

I’m running a set of TA aluminum heads with Bob’s TR6 ignition and i need to get some spark plugs for it. I’ve been running the wrong style plugs with the TR6 (no resistor) and the car breaks up into boost. Since I’ve been the dumb arse running the wrong plugs, I’m having a heck of a time finding the correct ones.

The challenge seems to be i need a plug with a 3/4” reach, with a resistor, to work with a 5/8” socket and non-projected. All I’m seeing that will fit those heads are with projected tips. All the non-projected plugs don’t have a long enough reach. I’ve checked NGK, Autolite and Denso. I’m sure there are plenty of others out here with the same setup that can point me in the right direction. Any help is much appreciated!

What ECU? Nothing wrong with non resistor plugs if your not running a stock ECU. I run

EFI applications all recommend resistor plugs. The TR6, being right where the action is, is a little more sensitive than the ECU's.

That said, the question is more to projected vs non-projected tip plugs. I think (my opinion..) that most of the Buick guys are just fine with
regular (projected tip) style plugs. If you are seriously pushing the envelope (boost+heat+power, etc..) then switching to non-projected enters the discussion.

But, for a resistor style, non-projected tip, .750 reach, 5/8" hex, gasketted plug that is fairly cold, I recommend this one.

You can also find them on ebay, but I have heard stories about counterfeit spark plugs (although counterfeiting an oddball plug like this one would not make much sense)

What’s your gap set to? I bet you are trying to run some big gap because you heard it improve your idle or something similar? So where are u at .025,.030,.035,.040? I’m running my gap at .020 and have had no issues with idle ect. Anyway keep us posted

I have them gapped at .035 right now, but i’m thinking the lack of resistor is hopefully the issue.

Brisk racing silver is what I use. Be sure to order resistor plugs. I use these in everything but iron heads because they don’t have an application for the short thread

Thanks for the recommendations and tips guys. Just ordered a set of the Brisk racing plugs, the DR12s, so hopefully i can get them swapped this weekend. Appreciate all advice!

Is there a reason you are running such a big gap? I would get your new resistor plugs and set the gap down around .024 ish there is really no reason to run a large gap I promise you your car will idle just fine and your spark won’t blow out when u are in boost . Keep us updated

So i put in a set of the Brisk plugs this afternoon and it’s like a completely different car. Didn’t break up at all. Have a good bit of work to do on the tune but much better. Crazy what having the proper plugs will do ‍:X3:

those are the best of the best thx bison on your recommendations
Silver is an element with the most free electrons, and is the best electrical and thermal (heat) conductor of all metals! ... The Brisk Silver Racing plugs have a fine wire center electrode (not just the tip), which gives more room for insulator between the center electrode and spark plug shell.

I’ve been running these with no issues . I have them gapped down to .025

Sorry for the delayed response. I ended up putting in the Brisk DR12S. Have only around 100 miles on the car since but seems to be running much better. Currently have them gapped at .030
