I decided to have a motor built , and after many discussions with Dave Husek , I'm having him build me a long rod stroker . The block is mostly prepared , just waiting on pistons which I just got back from Swain Tech . I had them coated with TBC on top & PC-9 on the skirts . The motor will have either GN1 or TA heads , not sure right now, but they will also be coated . Here are the before and after of the pistons . More to come down the road .

Swain Tech does a nice job. I had a set of used piston skirts coated to the maximum thickness to take up some piston to wall clearance on a spare engine, and the coating is very tough. After running it for 9 months, I had it apart again and the coating looked good. It does not wear like I thought it would.

They are local to me and I've heard nothing but good about them . On the heads I'm going to coat the combustion chambers , valve faces , back of the exhaust valves , and exhaust ports . The headers and down pipe are already coated . I guess if their coatings are good enough for John Force they are good enough for me .

Those pistons have the wrist pin bores centered in the piston which allows them to slap on cold start up. Without that coating on the skirts the piston slap will remove the cross hatch where they slap the bores and it will remove the horizontal lines on the skirts. You did the right thing.

I see in your signature that you broke your stock block set-up.
What broke?
Were you running E85?
How much boost?
How much spark advance?

The thermal barrier on the tops of your new pistons is an option. The coating on the skirts is an absolute must have. When you send them to Swain,they give you a discount if you get both coatings. I highly recommend that you do. Again, the coating on the skirts is a must have.

This motor is completely speced out by Dave Husek . Heads , cam and valve train have yet to be determined , but I trust his judgment .

good job on that choice don't know who turned you on to that or where you got your info but this works we are doing it to a friend of mine's Hellcat which is going to be a true 426 stroker Hemi with a Whipple supercharger should make about 1400 horsepower you be able to use less timing and make more power by coating the chambers and piston tops I will say this though if there are guys out there with iron heads thinking about doing this don't do it as the iron heads keep all the heat in the combustion chamber you need you can coat the piston tops just don't do the chambers and what T- type 6 said helps a bunch the biggest reason for coating the skirts is not even for Les friction it's mainly to keep the cross hatch in the cylinders which helps a boat load the friction reduction is just a bonus
