To use an RJC power plate or not

I know this thread is a few years old, but.........In my useless to most opinion,

No competitively tuned sub-10 second car should be counting on a power plate for even air distribution. Further more, any non-race car weekend warrior or cruiser should not be tuned lean or close enough to need one.

Totally disagree. Put EGT's in each cyl an get back to me .

All I can say, I chased a KR problem for months, adjusted, checked, looked at PL logs, adjusted, no luck, threw on a power plate, re-adjusted, and low and behold, KR disappeared, the $49 dollars or whatever it was, was worth it in my case, AND the gas mileage I GAINED from it, has more than paid me back for installing it. Saved me from a blown head gasket, and gained me some MPG, it's a no brainer for me to keep running it.

Powerplate is designed for stock intake manifolds.... ANY changes to the plenum / manifold or both changes the way each of them perform. In itself it is not a restriction for most cars. Here is a champion ported intake w/ stock plenum & TB. This is at RC's shop. Front of intake is at the bottom on the picture.....

Was able to speak with Sod at Hyetech. Take it out! lol...no ditch on Jason's products but Sod designed the upper plenum. Doesn't need a PP. Anyone need a Precision PP???? lol....

If you have a custom designed plenum that distributes air evenly, there would be no need for the power plate.

I have and do. That's my point exactly. Put EGT's in each cylinder. Then tune them individually.

I challenge anyone with nothing more than a Power Plate to show me individual EGT's as close as I can get them with cylinder correction.

I'm not saying the Power Plate doesn't work. I'm questioning the logic behind it's use.

At the stock "bolt-on believer" level, maybe it could help a poor man trying to prove a point. But what point is he proving by wicking it up to the edge of his leanest cylinder? To get what? To beat who? Chances are it's a bracket race or test and tune. Or is he street racing the Bugatti he never had a shot at anyway. Or he's using tons of alky and the stuff is distributed wet and all un-even , or the damned flow matched injectors aren't as "flow matched" as he thought. If it's a stock type set-up, your tune should never be this close.

Once many have entered the sub 10 second realm, it's time to step it up to protect your investment. I never understood the reason for spending thousands to increase head, intake, and exhaust flow......... then, go ahead and restrict the same flow!

At this point, most are likely using an aftermarket ECM. So go ahead and spend some more money on an individual EGT data acquisition system. Then tune accordingly. You won't get it closer than this. And you don't have to guess or restrict anything. The only argument for using the Power Plate at this point is "I spent 25 thousand on my engine, now I have a drug problem, so now I can't afford to keep it together, so now I'll buy a Power Plate."

i will play:)egts well below 1500 90+lbs /min on a stock block 109,stock crank, with a power plate and 50gph meth through 3 nozzles.boost range you dont want to know and i dont kiss and tell;)plugs are mint and without the plate they were not.i also agree you can only tune to the leanest cylinder.

We still check plugs to. Boost ?? 20/21#s from what I remember

Just remembered this is from 2016 ? Toby how did this scenario work out ?

It's kinda like watching an old movie again, like the "The Wizard of Oz" just for the hell of it. I've been reading old posts from the mid 2000's in the Stage-II section recently. Those are a lot of fun!

My only experience with the plate is i was able to run 3 more psi 26-29 without kr so it did work in that aspect spraying lots of alki, as far as power it didn't make anymore at 26 with or without. this was with the Pte plenum/plate version.

So maybe it should be called the "rjc even flow plate"

In theory, the plate is supposed to equalize air flow by restricting air in some cylinders and redistributing it into others. I'm not using on my car and I have doubts that having one would make a noticeable difference in performance.

So bottom line in a mild build would the power plate make a noticeable difference in driveability or performance by the seat of your pants. Also should you use longer bolts to compensate for the extra space used by the power plate. I don't care about the $50 bucks or so but don't want to do something that isn't really going to help. If it's not broke, don't fix it!

what intake and plenum throttle body are you using?
Nothing near stock. So, I admit, a Power Plate wasn't even an option for me. I have Champion's (not stock ported) full race port intake, a custom built (by me) sheet metal plenum, and a 90MM throttle body.
how many lbs/min?and how many gph are you injecting?
Not sure about actual mass-air measurements, just under 20lbs of boost with a soft launch, in pure street trim, on pump gas/alky results in a solid high 9 second pass. Never has the boost ever been in the high 20's. I can't drive for shit. :)
And dual M15 alky nozzles.

Again, I would like everyone to remember what I said earlier.......... It's not that I think the Power Plate doesn't work. I'm just not sure it's the logical choice for many applications.
