Hey guys and gals regal_rob78 here from Penticton British Columbia Canada. I have a 1978 regal 3.8 turbo with 80,000 original km. I am just starting to work in the car and am looking for some information regarding my cars engine and what the difference is between the grand national and my regal other then the year. I would like to get the same hp one day any any thoughts ideas or any one available to chat

Welcome aboard.

I don't know much, if anything, about hot air cars, but you're in the right place to learn.

I would ditch the draw though carb setup and go blow through! That's what I did to my 80 Turbo Monte. You will be a lot happier.

It is like night and day difference! You need to take a ride in a 87 Grand National. You can make similar power with your engine, just not with the turbo and intake you have now. I worn you it is not very cost affective, but can be done. A better route would be to buy a complete 87 engine or even a hot air engine. If you would like to see what I have done you can find it on G Body Forum under Suck N Blow Monte Thread. It all ends up being what is it you want your car to be and do?

Nice car friend. If its all stock, that's a great find. My advice is to leave it alone and enjoy it as is. If you want to go faster then I would sell it and try to find a nice 86 or 87 at the level you want. You will be way ahead in money and time doing it that way.

^^^ Isn't a '78 Regal turbo sort of the start of our whole deal? Very cool if so.
