What size battery fits the best

my old optima red top recently died. It was actually too small- short, I added a piece of rubber for the factory hold down to be secure. What group size fits the best under the factory hold down without modification? Also, are the new optima not as good as the ones from 10 years ago? I'd like another AGM because the lead acids tend to vent. I don't want my battery to vent and potentially corrode anything under the hood. Thanks.

Do group 78 batteries fit well without modifying the tray or hold down? I think group 75 were factory.

I just bought a Optima Red Top yesterday, only to find out that the battery doesn't fit worth a shit. I couldn't get the plastic tray stands to work either and I don't like how the battery strap just barely catches the corner of the battery. Is there a trick to securing these batteries where it doesn't look necky. If not this thing will be going back to Advance Auto tomorrow. Thanks
