Ticking in front of engine

Hello Guys , I have started hearing a " Ticking " sound that's in the front of the engine . As you rev the engine the ticking gets faster . I do not believe its an oil filter issue and I removed the belt to make sure it wasn't a bearing somewhere and it still ticks . The engine is stock , meaning the heads have never been off and stock bottom end . The timing belt is still stock also . Car has bout 75k miles . Thanks in advance Keith
I'm running alky , te61 , 60lbs and a front mount ic

If you have taken off the belt and that didn't stop the noise, you have to pull the valve overs and check for push rod slop or a bad rocker. You might have a lazy lifter. Also go underneath the car and look to make sure that your crank sensor is not touching the reluctor wheel on your harmonic, or that your reluctor wheel that goes through the crank sensor on your harmonic is not touching the front cover near where your oil pan is at the bottom.

Might be a silly question, but have you checked your dipstick to see that you have enough oil in the motor?

Not a silly question but she is full of oil . I will check out what you have posted . Thank you

I had a tick once, turned out to be a leaking exhaust manifold gasket. If youve ever had the manifolds off and added gaskets I would check them to be sure. I looked around the exhaust ports till i found one that looked to be leaking.

If you cant see any signs of leaks, I would disconnect every injector one by one while the engine is running and listen to see if the tick goes lower or away?

Thank you Sir , I will do that .

The car runs just fine , has not died a single time . You can rev the engine just above idle and hear it better .

Assuming the tick you are hearing is not the normal boosted singer sewing machine sound these cars make....

1. I had a tick recently that turned out to be the pcv valve. Does it go away when you squeeze that hose? Is this the one you replaced already?

2. I also had a little tick or noise coming from one of the pulleys or the tensioner and the one size shorter belt took care of that.

That's all I got for ya Keith.

I took the belt off and the ticking didn't go away , The pcv issue was on the other car . Thanks

You need to change that timing set YESTERDAY. That thing has timed out years ago.

On the tick, it could be lots of things. Easy things to check are the intercooler mounting bolts, rocker shaft buttons, rocker shafts.

Harder things to check are pushrods, DS header crack, and timing chain slap (but that needs to be addressed anyway).

You are correct on the timing belt , its on the list . I know sounds can trick you but its like its at the top and front of the engine .

When rocker shafts break there's a 50% chance it's at the front of the valve covers. Pretty common failure from a factory weakness.

Update Fellows , I got home started the car and was ticking like I described , I got a hose and stuck to the cam sensor and to my ear and it sounded like it was making the noise there but after she ran for a while , 5 to 10 min the ticking went away . I'm gonna let her cool down and see if it keeps doing that . I know this sounds crazy but I have read some where here that the oil filter could be the issue . I will report back with more info soon . Thanks Keith

That can still show a cracked rocker shaft. The lifter can expand and take up the slack as the shaft curls up. (until it runs out of travel and spits out the retaining ring).

Bad oil filters cause startup rattle. Even the cheapest POSs shut up after a few seconds.

All I can offer up are personal experiences of what I've found over the years on my cars.
Ticking has been a crank sensor and cracked header.
More of a rattling has been cam sensor, loose crank pulley and tensioner.
You will find it and when you do dont forget to post what you found.
