Shadowdash app on a 10" tablet for those interested in the tablet option. A 7" tab would be more practical for people who don't want to cut

Which tablet? How do you get it to turn on/off with the ignition? Did you have to hack android to get ShadowDash to start and connect automatically?
 
I used an rca 10" tab that has a USB port in it. Shadowdash is already Android compatible and is available though Google store. Unfortunately it uses Bluetooth to connect and the ecm uses WiFi so that's the reason I decided to get one with usb port in the tablet so I can direct plug into ecm. When the cluster comes out you lose the warning light strips on the side so I can get a finger through there to turn on/off the tablet. It automatically connects with the USB cable connected.
 
To fuel some creative juices, here are some of my YouTube vids when I had a Samsung tablet velcro mounted in my G8 which ran a gauges app, OBDlink, that then connected via Bluetooth to a wireless scantool dongle that plugged into my OBDII port.

I'm thinking about a similar setup in the GN connected to this ECU. I believe you can get the ecu-gn with either Bluetooth or Wifi capable.

I have it running on an Amazon Fire HD, but it's not good. The Amazon tablet is loaded with adware that slows the thing down, and it's ability to allow Shadowdash to connect correctly is spotty and it can be frustrating. I've been looking for a tablet with a less hacked up version of Android on it. I want it to come up on key-on, connect, and shut down on key-off. Automatically. No interaction.

I have a 12v power supply that supplies power to a USB port with a delay, so once you cut the ignition, it'll send signal out of a set of pins to let whatever know the key's off. I need to figure out how to get that signal into the tablet, or I need an app on the tablet that'll automatically shut it down or sleep it once power from the USB port is gone for xx minutes, then bring it back to life when the key comes back on and auto-start Shadow Dash. A powered hub so it can charge and be connected to the ECUGN at the same time is also on the list.

Do NOT get an Amazon Fire tablet for your dash. They just killed mine. The last update blocks access by apps to the USB port, and the Amazon OS doesn't like Wifi access points that don't have internet access. It constantly resets the connection looking for the internet. It won't stay up long enough to talk to the ECUGN.

So, this one's getting reset and handed down to the kid. I've ordered a vanilla Android loaded Hyundai tablet from Newegg. I'll report back once I get it working (or not).
 
I'll keep following this post. I have struggled with wanting full instrumentation while not having a variety of gauges poking out from various mounts. The aftermarket GNX type of dash is nice, but the tablet option looks like it may be easier. I'm thinking a mounting arrangement could be configured to allow the OEM dash to be retained for daily cruising & the tablet moved into position when needed.

When mine worked, I hung it off a RAM suction mount to the right of the main cluster.

The tablet isn't going to give you critical stuff like turn signals and the gas gauge without a LOT of work.

The key is to have thresholds on the gauges set so they change color or flash when something's wrong.

I have a random question... when using the WBO2... does the ecuGN use the factory "Narrow" Band O2 for anything?

Nope, but it's hooked up and you can log from it if you want to enable it. But if you have the wideband, the narrow band is the definition of not useful. It does a good job of plugging the hole in the header, though.

You can run the car in narrowband mode, I did just that for about 4 months before I pulled the harness for WB into the cabin. Car ran fine, Bob Bailey walked me through all the settings to make it work. I would never recommend that for a customers car but I wanted to get one of my cars going with it so I could play with the other features.
 
I don't have much to add, these other guys have it pretty well covered. The system is very configurable and although I have not tried, you likely can configure it to use the stock O2 at light throttle. I don't think it would be worth doing, the system runs very well with the wideband enabled all the time.

If not interested/logging the stock sensor, the input can be repurposed to be another general purpose analog input for oil pressure or some other cool thing.
