MAF Intake Pipe Corrected thanks to Earl Brown

Ever since I switched my turbo from the TA49 with the inlet bell to the 6262 with the integral inlet (which moved the inlet further away from the MAF sensor) I have been having issues with my MAF pipe blowing off or coming loose. I have a TR Customs big mouth cold air intake kit through a factory MAF that then went through a Kirban MAF pipe. No matter how much slack I tried to pick up from air intake to turbo, it was just too short. I even switched to the breeze constant tension clamps and it still wouldn't hold.

I reached out to Earl Brown and he hooked me up with a nice polished intake pipe and the right couplers to cure my problem. He even sent me the pipe to try before he even asked me to pay him. Very cool.

Anyway, his pipe and angled coupling fixed my problem and all is well again.

Can't say enough good things about earlbrown. He did me a solid earlier this year when he stepped up to make me a custom bolt kit for my CASV4 Slic. By the way nice looking engine bay.
 
Earl Brown is the go to guy for MAF pipe!!

Brother Man please get rid of that stock MAF sensor and upgrade to an LT1 or LS1 and a Translator , Trust me its money WELL spent . And very nice engine bay , I wish my two was that clean .

Lmao. I knew someone would point that out. I hear ya Keith. It works for now and before I start going MAF, translator, then power logger, etc I might just make the jump to a more modern ECU and do away with all that older tech.

Thanks for the comment on the engine bay. I actually need to apply some elbow grease to the polished pipes. They need some help.

I made my own set up with pipe from Kirban and got 4.5 cone k&n filter used stock plastic elbow with LT 1 maf sensor and translator Eric made me a chip for my stock set up it idles so much better now
a lot of turbo flutter when I get off the gas though

not sure I believe it is stock garret M10 didn't really check, I hade to really clean my turbo shield when I got the car

The TA49 does a lot of that flutter so I thought maybe that's what you had.

is the 49 the stock one for 87
maybe the m10 is for 85 can't remember
trying so hard to keep it stock but everyone knows how that goes

That is one killer engine bay for sure! Earl does make an easily adjustable MAF pipe that clears everything.
I'm glad you got it set up the way you like. Me like too.

You have NO IDEA how bad I wanted to say that a few days ago!


I almost sent a 3.5" pipe kit and and LS1 MAF and said ''get a translator and tell me how much more gooder your car runs''!


But this trial pass was pretty in depth getting around the up-pipe, IAC plug, A/C lines, AND being able to reach his existing CAI...... I had a feeling I'd solve the problem, but I REALLY wanted to figure out how to toss that stock sensor.


...on the upside, everything works now and it won't get ripped apart... on the downside, that stock style MAF has to kill kittens everytime air flows through it. :D
 
What's really cool is it looks like you nested the couplers enough that you can upgrade to a modern MAF and not have to start over or buy again. And that's kinda bitchin.
 
Hey SpeedRacer , I have been told by some of the older guys that what they would do is remove one of the screens in the MAF sensor , Its two there , and they would remove the one closer to the turbo .I'm guessing to help air flow. Maybe some one could chime in on this . Keith
 
I'm actually already working with Earl again on a 3.5" setup and LS1 MAF and be done with it. You guys talked me into it. Lol.

^^ this is true. Some took out both screens, but with the increased air flow came inconsistent maf inputs and found it was not worth it.

Taking one screen out was a good compromise between air flow and good maf readings.
