Trying to get a baby boxer from Dallas area to metro Atl GA area, starting to look like i will have to drive 12/1/2 hrs one way to get him... flying out and driving back would be 6-$750, roundtrip drive not much better...

Shipping a dog? like in a box via UPS? No. Do not do that. Absolutely not. Nope. It'll be dead at the end of the trip. If it survives, it'll likely be mentally damaged from the stress.

Look up dog rescue organizations. They often run relays with dogs to move them cross country. A volunteer loads a few animals in a car, and they drive, stopping every couple of hours to let the dogs out to move around. The get somewhere and hand the animals off to somebody else for the next leg.

No i'm not talking about shipping in a box LoL, i had one fly in a dog crate years ago on Delta but they no longer want to fly what they call a flat nose dog even if you carry it on, tried uship but no luck yet.

A friend of mine owns a dog kennel selling 100 dogs a year. He competes and travels nationally. His reputation in the business is really good and well know across the country. He ships almost all his puppies through the airport. I'm not sure of the process but it's done everyday at every airport. Give the airport close to the area of the puppy a call and see what the details, process, and price. I would think its way cheaper than driving and less convenient for sure.

When Molly was a pup she would have insisted on first class with good treats ;)

I don't know if it's still done, it was just a few years ago, poultry supply companies used to ship day old chicks in corigated containers via USPS. Mail personnel hated springtime because they had all these noisy birds hanging out at the post office until someone would pick them up.

The airline is the one to call, i must have talked to the Co. idiot cause when i called again i found out the only restriction is that they fit in a carrier under the seat when they are a carry-on.. beats the hell out of a 12hr one way drive.

Yes they ship em.. NOT cheap. Me i'd try an get one locally . Want to see the parents an how they were brought up to the point when ya get them. Those were the wifes rules for our last dog.

I have experience flying 18 hr trans continental flights with a boxer puppy, american bulldog puppy, and a 200 lb american bulldog on different occasions. Do not bring the puppy in the cabin with you. Boxer puppies are chicken $hit and will go nuts when the plane takes off. Put them in a carrier, with blankets and a water bottle. the airlines will pressurize and temp control the checked luggage area and the puppy will be fine. Germany has an executive dog lounge at the airport for animals in transit!

I'm with Dan on this. My son just got a mini schnauzer from a breeder. They were about 2 hours away. It was great to see their environment and meet the mommy and daddy. It was a big change for her to leave the others behind. I can't imagine subjecting a little one to the trauma of an air flight. I'm sure you could find the right puppy in a drivable radius.

Save a life. Go to your local pound. If you don't like the selection, go back a week later. Some pounds even post pics on line.

My wife just got 2 puppies from a breeder in Arizona . She paid $500 for them to be delivered by a " Nanny " who flies with them as carry on .

Hey , she lets me do what I want with my Buick , and she makes way more than me !!
We had to put down both of our dogs in the last year and it's been tough without them . She got the pups she wanted that remind her of our other ones .

It's tough to get them to sit still . They'er called Pomskies , a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian . The idea is to have miniature huskies . They have some big shoes to fill after our last 2 , they were great dogs .

I have always wanted to do this but i like large breeds and Ive found it safer to buy a pedigree dog from a good breeder. The dogs tend to be more predictable.
