Borg Warner turbo in a Turbo Buick!

Please post your products in a different thread.. Thank you

I can't edit my post.

Can you please edit my post and delete it then? I tried and I cannot do it....can you please edit it for me?

Is it me, or can no one edit their posts anymore?

Thank you. I sent you a PM with the request as well.

Is there a limit on when we can edit posts?

I noticed they "added" an Edit time limit with the last upgrade, or maybe it was just part of the software they used, but I'm not a fan of it.

I'm kind of a spelling/grammar nut and I want the posts that I put up (at least the sober ones, anyway ) to read properly.

Heck , I edited this one twice..........

According to Shane in the "Parts For Sale" sticky where he warns sellers about posting multiple items for sale with multiple threads there is a time limit now to edit.

Yea me either! I was more posting to let the dude know EFRs really wouldnt be seen in a 3 bolt setup and that 3 bolt BWs can be had currently.

Part of the sales literature for the EFR turbo is the twin scroll stuff, claiming an extra 1,000rpm quicker spool up because of that addition to the turbo design. I couldnt see a 3bolt setup having the same gain in spoolup without the twin scroll housing...unless they use something like Garrett's divided v-band inlets, that have a divided v-band flange you can add onto headers for a twin scroll effect, but I havent seen any vband-housings using a divided inlet..which would be required to take advantage of the divided vband inlet flange.

And Ive only seen that piece from 1 turbo company as well...but a divided 3bolt flange would be AWESOME for the Buick guys!! Imagine getting some Gee M headers in twin scroll setup that still used a 3bolt mount!

Oh right on. Thanks for letting us know what is up!

Do you know what the time limit is? Or if there is a way to increase it in the Settings for our accounts?

We no longer allow editing after a short time frame of the initial post. We had to many people editing threads for
nefarious reasons! Shane's quote not mine!

I have 3 bolt headers. I have an EFR 9174. I would rather it be on my car than in my closet. I don't guess it matters though, my engine rebuild is somewhere between 10 months and 5 years from being finished anyways

Have you spoke with whoever sold you the EFR turbo about going with 4-bolt headers?

When you bought the turbo what were your intentions for running it being as you have 3bolt headers with a 4bolt turbo? I mean...how were you figuring on running it?

I changed the edit time. For many years that his been my policy. When we did the 2.0 upgrade the edit feature got turned back on. There has been to many people abuse it over the years. Too many times I have seen people post something, get called on it and then go change it. I don't play that... You got 10 minutes....

Multiple times it was mentioned that a 3 bolt housing was in the works so I bought the turbo and waited.

If the 3 bolt mod was such a turd an update and details would have been awesome.

Looks like I will need some headers, no biggie. Too bad twin scrolls are so expensive

I got a BW on my Turbo Mustang and dam does it spool up FAST! But I got it from Jose and forced Induction. He has his own wheel design that makes a little more power. Also has a wide range of AR's.

I wouldn't be so quick to disregard the 3 bolt, presently a limited number are available from www.theturboplace.com (call the number and ask for Sam). These are from the same batch of housings pictured in post #20 of this thread.

At the recent Lorenz Performance and Racing open house two GN's with 3-bolt BorgWarner EFR-9174's were dyno tested:

First car was John Schmidt's, e98, GN-1 stroker with rollers and GN-1 heads and matching intake, to the rolls it made, 822 Ft-Lbs @ 3,800 RPM and 659 HP @ 5,200 RPM on ~29 psi, this car previously ran a 9.97 @ 135 with this set up but pig rich. Leaning the car out a bit while on the dyno bumped the power from 600 to 659 HP.

Second car was Bryan Lynch's, (phoneguy) stroker, pump gas with alcohol, TAI class legal, to the rolls it made 856 ft-lbs @ 3,700 RPM and 640 HP @ 4,500 RPM

Bryan's feedback about boost response is that it comes up on boost very fast!

Another recent development (Thanks to GEE-M racing) is true twin scroll headers!! These headers were on display at the 2018 TurboBuick.com nationals along with a BorgWarner EFR 7163-G turbo. These headers should accommodate all EFR twin-scroll turbos and also many of the BorgWarner AirWerks turbos.

There are now available options for 3-Bolt, single scroll four bolt, and true twin scroll four bolt.

Most of the guys run a stock stroke with a pair of iron heads. It'd be nice to see some HP or ET numbers for the guys that don't have deep pockets for an expensive long block build with one of these newer turbos.

It would be nice to see dyno results from different engine configurations.

Now that the turbos are available through http://theturboplace.com/ anyone can purchase one and test on their own configuration.

I disagree most go to a stroker kit because there is no difference in price going to that crank.

Not everyone can afford a stroker kit...or even an aftermarket crank. A lot of guys run stock junk just like I do...cuz they can't afford anything else.

It only takes a rod to let go and the motor is junk, the new parts are worth saving your money for. Once the stock stuff let's go you can damage just about everything just look at Nigel post..

Ask Bison how many minutes of serious HP he's shoved through the stock bottom end in his blue car.
