Ok guys, here is the deal. The best date we can get at Piedmont for the 2019 TurboBuick.com Nationals is Memorial Day Weekend 2019! May 24th and 25th 2019! What do you guys think??????????

The track fee is much higher this year so we will need a higher than ever turnout. We are probably going to have a Buick vs xxxxx brand type of event! As usual we will come up with new and fun things as well!

Vote and post your thoughts as well.

Yes , I like the idea of not having to go back to work on Monday after traveling all day Sunday .

Also, the plan is to be racing at the track in the evening instead of during the daytime. RCG during the day at track at night from 4 until 10pm so everyone wont have to battle the potential heat during the day.....

You only mention two dates so are we talking a two day event total next year?

My guess is doing it on a holiday weekend will not help attendance; especially if we hope to have new/ younger attendees. Many will have other family obligations or plans but who knows I could be wrong.
Also, for those who may be flying, won't plane tickets cost more? I don't know, seems like avoiding a holiday would be good....... so many other variables with holiday weekends.

Traffic will suck for guys coming a long distance.

I will attend no matter the dates.
I always go down early and stay later, so holiday traffic wouldn’t be too much of an issue for me.
That being said, I think Memorial Day weekend is Not a good idea. I think attendance would suffer significantly on a holiday (family) weekend. And traveling for most (especially those towing their cars) would be Much more difficult. I would also think hotel accommodations would be more difficult and more expensive.
I think the original weekend, even if back at Farmington, would be the better option.

I can see both sides of this. I mean a holiday may make it slightly easier for people to take the time but we're still not really talking about the actual holiday, just the weekend before hand. It would be nice to not have to go back to work the next day (for the 9 to 5 crowd, that is) but that doesn't apply to me (I have to work holidays). The problem is that Memorial Day weekend is basically the kick off of the summer vacation season and a big family vacation holiday. I know my family would much rather go to a beach than a racetrack.

Only 3 days in 2019? No Wednesday?

For racers.....all weekends are spent at the track. For spectators, it’s all about what your into. The event ends Saturday so you can spend Sunday and Monday wherever you wish.....just plan accordingly. As a Vendor and one of the Show Administrators....I will be there for the entire week as normal.
The beach and other destinations are available every weekend all summer but scheduled events happen when scheduled and then are over until the next year.
We are notifying everyone 11 months in advance.
Plenty of time to break it to the family that there is a scheduled event that has fallen on that Saturday.
As for busy travel....most of the serious Buick guys are there by Thursday so traffic will be minimal compared to Friday and Saturday.
With some of the stuff we are planning, this event is going to look totally different then the others.
Some of the things being considered for the track are...
Buick vs. ???? Grudge style racing
All G-Body Car Show
VIP Tent w/ catered food & drinks for the major sponsors
Night time racing
Big $$$ Part Raffles

My fellow administrators can post the things I have missed.

This approach seems good if trying to make the event more exclusive for the "serious Buick guys" and those who already know about it 11 months ahead of time....... but if trying to increase attendance and include more people along the way, it may not be best.

Why Charles???

They havent made these cars in 30+ years and its not like they are on every street corner like some makes / models that are still in production. What is your suggestion to increase attendance for the serious Buick guys??

Sorry if I as confusing....
My point was that post #12 made it sound like Holiday weekends, other family plans, etc. didn't really need to be a consideration because the serious Buick guys would be there anyway, plan accordingly, "break it to the family", etc. That is probably true and fine if the serious buick guys, and those of us close by, are the only target audience. However; if you want to increase attendance by others that maybe aren't the most serious enthusiast but still might like to come or to encourage those that may not get the 11 months notice; then maybe a Holiday weekend would be good to avoid. Lots of people that do make other plans for Memorial day weekend will be hitting the road Friday which would make it very difficult to attend the TB.com event. I don't know that many, or any, people would be in that situation but I just think it is a variable worth considering, that's all. There are pros and cons both ways.
I think the "Buick vs. ???? Grudge style racing " idea is great! Maybe some of you fast guys could beat up on some of the loud mustangs running around here. I'm a vintage mustang fan but this new crowd sure is annoying.
A couple other suggestions would be:
1) You are probably already doing this but hopefully all the vendors web sites have a big ad for the event with a link to the info.
2) Insure the info on this site is clear and really stands out, maybe with a totally separate forum at the top of the page just for the 2019 event. Right now if you go to the 2019 event thread, it is mostly info about old events and would be very hard for a newcomer, or even a regular, to sort through for information about the next event.

Regardless of the date, I'm going to do my best to attend...... already looking forward to it!

I agree with charles. Basically the serious buick guys will always be there so thats attendance in the bank. Having it on a holiday weekend will really cut into attendance. If there was some family fun around there then it could make the trip a little easier with family. I dont mean mini golf either.. maybe have a few bouncy houses there have some carnival games and rides. I dont know what that entails but it will make it easier. Could even do a food truck thing.

We have what appears to me to be a Major problem. I tried to make a reservation on line at the Best Western on Huffman Mill Rd.
There are NO rooms available during that time. I called and was told Elon books the entire hotel for graduation.
I’ve never stayed anywhere else, and have tons of reward points, so that is a serious disappointment.

I tried “Hotels.com”. I have absolutely no experience with them, so I don’t know how they work, but it showed nearly every hotel in the Burlington area as “fully booked” for those dates.

I agree , I just checked Expedia.com and it said Burlington hotels are 95% booked for those dates . I like the idea of the holiday weekend but we all need a place to stay .
