Best "Top 3" modifications HOT AIR

But a hold down plate from any 86 87 IC car will work? Like the one from gbody?

I'm doing the same f body radiator mod. You may have to adjust the lower radiator line.

What would you say are the top 3 non-performance and performance related mods you made to your car? Post some pics if you have some.

OK, I’ll go first.
Well, the lines get blurred between performance and nonperformance.
I am more less talking about things that made “PESKY” assembly easy or some small things that will make a difference. Not talking about

Here is my criteria - Try NOT to list mods that we pretty much all know about and/or are easy. Example; Upgrading the ECM is “easy” and we all know about it.
I’ll take a stab at it. This is just my opinion and you can list an state yours.

Non performance ……..
Turbo bracket - This is a gem! I take no credit for this one and belief Buickpower to be the originator. This is an awesome mod and saved me 2-4 hours of fighting the ******* oil return tube!
Valley pan gasket cutout – This will allow the oil to drain into the block and “hopefully” reduce the oil sucked up through the PCV. Easy mod to assist in combating pesky oil problems.
Interior painting – This is a GREAT mod for any enthusiast who would drive the car for a while. A clean and well kept vehicle should have a higher market value

Performance
Dual fans – Pushing the air for a “OEM” engine bay look. Fans are from a Nissan and I now have the platform set to adapt any dual fan.
Exhaust system locating pins - Allows repeated precision alignments. No. I do not plan to take them on and off, but, the ports and headers are “without any doubt aligned”.
TB O-ring – I did not want to worry about gasket protrusions and possible leakage so I added an o-ring.

Okay, I'm stuck in the sticks of N.E. Texas. Can someone please send me a link, or the specifics on which year/parts I need to upgrade to the fbod radiator install? Thanks

The parts you will need is the radiator from a 87-92 camaro with the 5.7 v8. If you plan on adding electric fan you will need to cut your fan shroud down or just get a 86-87 turbo regal top radiator hold down plate...g body parts is a great place to source one or kirbans performance

The wiring harness for the fans can be sourced from caspers electronics

hi to all ,,yes I am a new ha motor owner but it is not in a gn....it is going into a 1973 backhalf ford pinto that is about 1,000 lbs lighter..my upgrades consist of a chip, fuel pressure reg..I will be doing a larger down pipe , no cats and will have dual 2.5 pipes to flowmasters . alum. radiator , cold air intake , my questions are endless ...can I use 86-87 headers and relocate the turbo to the front ....what is needed to change the computer to the 86-87 ,is it plug and play or is it more involved.. can the boost be turned up on a ha....
I'll stop here for now ,,like I said I have many questions and can use any info ..thanks....Dave

I saw a couple of people mention the 3in downpipe as a good HA mod. I checked Gbodyparts and found nothing. Also checked buickgn.com and saw a few downpipes which appear to be only for use with Aftermarket Headers. Interesting, I don't think Headers were mentioned in this thread. Anyways, where do we get downpipes from these days? AND... does anyone have a verified dyno report to indicate how much HP the downpipe added?

Believe it helps with spool up and maxing out the turbo but I'm no
expert

Brian @ gbodyparts was the only one to carry them. I see they are no longer listed on his site. Might give them a call to see of they have any left. Year's back he bought my mease downpipe and made a bunch. He Might have sold them all and pulled them from his site as the market isn't there for them anymore. As for power, if you want to make any real power you need one. How much it helps depends on your mods

Just have a quick sec so no heavy thought into this right now, but let me be the first to add the one thing that comes to my mind whenever someone says the phrase "best mod": Alcohol Injection
Its just by far the single most beneficial thing Ive ever done to the car. Ive seen plenty of intercooled car owners state the same thing.

Good thread by the way. Dont want to call you a newbie Jerryl  but nice to notice someone new in the last 1+ years that seems to really be contributing to the community
Thanks for the info everyone, I just bought an 84 T top with the tan/charcoal interior w/ lier seigel seats. First GN!! Yeah!

Great tip thanks, I had a knee-jerk reaction and bought the Cold-Case GN Radiator from gbodyP’s. It was specific to the GN so I assumed it was the way to go, the fans/shroud/wires as a kit as well. Lol.. now after a bit of reading some are saying to buy the different bits from all over the place. wires from Caspers, shroud from Hartline.. Is the kit at GbodyP’s that comes with the cold Case radiator missing something as far as quality or installation ease?

Under ‘Cold Case radiator top plate’ I posted my upgrade to the Cold Case Rad/Fan&Shroud/wiring kit.
Was actually pretty easy for a medium experienced guy like me. I would say to anybody that want’s to upgrade there radiator that I love the new setup. I have had a few bugs so I would suggest to anyone else to make sure everything is working if you do it. Don’t trust new parts until proven they work correctly after installation. Have a look!

I need to see a picture of that bracket..

I'm interested in the turbo heat shield mod. I'm going to b ereplace my oil drain tube this weekend, but I don't see where cutting a hole would help. It's possible that my car is missing this shield. Does anyone have any pics that they can share so that I know what I am looking for. Also does anyone have any tips or pointers on installing the drain line, it looks like a pain to get to. Thanks.

Could somebody repost pictures of this mod please

Best "Top 3" things to do with a HA ? As in Eddie Murphy's Movie Trading Places...SELL SELL SELL ;)

One of the best things that I had done to my car was the Zero To Sixty 3" Down Pipe...He did not produce alot of them, but it made a drastic difference in spool as well as getting the stock turbo to its boost limits.

Once you take out the stock downpipe and see how small it is you know there will be a significant difference with a larger mandril bent piece.
Do you happen to have any detailed pictures of it off the car? and on the car?
