Opinions on ceramic coating

Was considering getting a clear protective wrap put on the front of a few of my cars, but then found the price to be crazy at around $600 each...I can have the front clips painted for around $150-200 so the cost over benefit just isn't there.
In talking to a friend of mine's son last night that does wraps, he recommended looking into ceramic coating the entire car at much less cost...won't protect from rock chips, but will give protection for bug splatters etc, and make it easier to wash.
My truck sits under a carport and the rear of it is in the sun most of the day, so I think the uv protection may be worth it for sure if it works as well as what I have read.
Thoughts?

Thanks

lotta ppl do ceramic coating these days. u can do it urself. jus buy the products and follow any utube video its simple no need to pay someone $800-1000 for it. its not gonna do what a wrap does tho but super easy to keep clean.

Wow is it that much? Applies similar to paste wax I would assume, haven't looked any further at it, but I did notice several vids on how to apply, didn't watch them yet. Any idea what materials cost?
Yeah, a wrap is the ultimate protection for rocks, but a friend that does wraps recommended not doing it as it would discolor the paint...and I can have the nose painted on most cars for about $150-200 so paying $600 to wrap the front didn't make sense for me...then add to it that it may discolor the paint after a few years I'd go with ceramic if it can at least protect against bug splatter and bird droppings.

You should talk to Geoff Newton. He has done enough vehicles and can give you answers on ceramic coating.

Who's telling you they will paint the front end of a car for $200? Are they going to use a using a roller or a rattle can?

I can tell you this with certainty, for $200, you're going to get what looks exactly like a $200 paint job.

Paint protection film won't discolor paint. $600 isn't too bad a price for it.

Colored vinyl wrap film might discolor the paint, depending on how long it's left on the vehicle, and... it looks like a wrap.

I know a lot of people who do both PPF and Ceramic Coating on their cars. And yes, having Ceramic Coating professionally installed is expensive, but it's done right.

My thoughts exactly.... I don’t think that covers materials on painting the front end, let alone labor....lol. And he’s been misinformed about PPF discoloring paint... maybe the old crap they used to use. XPel ultimate film is a great product. the OP can check out @clear_advantage on Instagram for some installs.

We use Suntek PPF films. Great Product!

Lol, I've had the front of my truck done once, my old Chevy done 2 times, multiple Trans Ams noses painted, $150 in the case of the TA since there is very little to tape off and nothing to remove. Helps I know the paint and body shop, but had done it many times over the 30 years of driving! Can't tell the difference from the to the rest of the car. About the same painting the rear spoiler on the TTA I used to have. Pay cash and the cost can be almost 50% less at most places anyway, just ask.

Vinyl will not discolor ur paint thats non sense. Ceramic coatings can be bought for like $80 for a good one but it has to go thru the same detailing process one would go thru if detailing their car. So u need all the detailing equipment such as wheels, wax etc... yes it will cost $800-1000 to get it done in most places. Its a lot of work but most of the work is the actual detail

I read up some on it, I have everything already but the coating and the silica stuff. Have all the buffing wheels etc already, will probably do this to the truck since it sees alot of sunlight.
As far as the clear goes, the guy that told that may have not wanted to do it who knows, I was told by someone else not in the business that the cheaper coatings may discolor also. But the cost of it just doesn't make any sense to me when I have the ability to paint it much cheaper.

Get one that's 3m and it won't discolor. U cant paint a car cheaper then a wrap. No fucking way unless ur doing like two panels which is kinda useless and not to mention try matching paint from different parts of ur car not an easy process.

Im gonna tackle my Mustang in a few weeks when I get it back and see how it turns out.
