Antenna in the windshield?

My 86 came with the electric antenna and it’s malfunctioning AGAIN (despite a rebuilt unit less than three years old). It doesn’t fully extend or retract. Actually I never listen to the radio (optional graphic equalizer setup) but the antenna activates whenever I turn it on to listen to my itunes (using an FM modulator to transmit on the FM band) So two questions:

1. What is the easiest way to disconnect the antenna motor so it will just stay in one place all the time but still be connected to the radio. I could leave it partially extended all the time)

2. I am having the car repainted this winter and had planned to put in a new windshield. Would there be any issues if I install a windshield with the built in antenna? I see OPG has them. I am assuming it could be connected to the radio without too much of a fuss. Or not?

I don't have an answer, but giving the thread a bump since I would like to know as well.

Just. Heard from my expert in all things Buick and he said the antenna windshield can be installed and the electric one disabled.

What is a Antenna Windshield For Turbo Buick., Years ago the antenna was laid in the front windshield, it that what you are talking about ?

to deactivate the power antenna motor
drop glove box down and unplug orange wire at top left side or unplug ant relay at lower right side its screwed to the backside of dashboard
or underhood unplug the 3wire connector between the ac box and passenger fender
or at back of radio pull the pink antenna wire pin out of the black plug

or fix the antenna

as for windshield embedded antenna i have one on my 87gn ttop race car and have a gm fender which came without the ant hole
youll need to replace the glass and youll need an antenna lead in from an embedded glass antenna car and drill the cowl for the lead

Thank you very much. This is very helpful.

I had the windshield with antenna installed on my t type when I got it painted and it works great. Good reception.

If you need to see where to drill hole for antenna in cowl I can send a pic

Just back from Florida and saw this post. A pic would be great.. Do I need the hole drilled before the new windshield goes in or can I do that when I get the at back from paint?

Thanks again

There is a couple dimples where to drill and where screws will go if irc. Good luck.

Couple of things to keep in mind:
The dimple is pretty plain where you have to drill
The newer reproduction antenna wire and mount is NOT the right angle, meaning you will not be able to lay your cowl molding flat (compare the 2 pics)
If you live in a city or suburb then your reception will be very good, if you live in a rural location your reception will not be good-I always wanted to get an adapter (not even sure if they make them) to have both antennas connected

Old cars, like the 57 Chevy, had a dual, rear antenna option. There was an "adapter" available, to hook both up, and then 1 cable to the ft.
