So I'm currently running a TA49. What would be the next step upgrade from that?
Also is there a ball bearing upgrade thats not too big? I don't track the car but would love some better gains overall. Also, what HP is the Tony Dequik SLIC good for? Thanks.
Current mods:
Champion irons
Champion intake {portmatched}
TT 5.7/alky chip
Razor alky
TH DP/ATR exhaust.
Tony Dequick SLIC
LS1MAF.

My opinion would be a TE-60 or TE-62 with a Garrett exhaust housing.

You would need to use a higher stall converter which will give you the same response as a BB turbo as we have done this very successful on many GN builds.

With the SLIC you should be able to get into the high 10's with the proper other supporting items.

I would look into the 6262

Have you run out the 49? its good for deep in the 11s some went much faster, also look into a T-netics hpc 61mm its BB and a true .63 if your looking for a small turbo,
Dequick v4 is good for at least 700hp

I really don't know that I've ran it out, but doubt it. I'm only at 20 PSI. Guess I could run 23/25 PSI since I'm running alky and see how it feels. I just don't want to push the bottom out. TA49 just seems to have such a small inlet. Maybe I'm over thinking it.

I've got a ta49/alky combo, running 26 PSI. I think it's a great turbo for a mostly street car. Getting a tune soon, so we might get some more out of it.

20psi,it's probably still sleeping.putting a bigger turbo on and running it on low boost will just slow the car down.49 turbo tuned up hits the tire hard and is one of super fun turbos for the street.

Don't give up on the 49 till you wring it out.

This is great news.

No. 75,000 relatively easy miles.
Ok Better keep it where it's at until your ready to do trans work.after getting a clear picture of what you have the turbo would be the last thing I would touch.trans upgrades and slightly looser with the d5 if your using a pte .63 ex housing on the 49 then turn the boost up.

Just for info, I have a Husek 3021 L/U 9 1/2 inch converter, I am very pleased with the performance. I think it would work equally as well, if not better with your combo. The 206 roller is a bit more cam than the stocker, but not really necessary to get the full potential of the TE-44 which is virtually the same as your 49. I have a stock dutt neck intercooler, a stock exhaust elbow with a slightly modified stock down pipe, and 255/60s. You have a better down pipe, and better intercooler, with a TA-49, a tight converter like mine, and 275/60s you could have a low 11 car. The only reason I have not done more is I don't want to do all of the 11.49 safety stuff. Dave also built my tranny a couple years back, still solid.

Sadly my trans is stock yet shifts very crisp {zero issues}. There are days I hope she slips so I can rebuild her properly with a good converter. That day will come I'm sure. I almost went 206 roller when the heads were off and hugely regret not.

I would stick with the 49 unless you have the money to build the trans. Add a little more boost since you've got alky. When you are ready to step up to a bigger turbo rebuild the trans and get a converter first before because that stock converter will not work good with a bigger turbo and the stock trans will let go once you start hitting it with the bigger turbo so you are better off building it first. I normally start with a shift kit, bigger servo, trans cooler and deep trans pan that feeds from the bottom instead of the top. Like the others have said if you put a bigger turbo on it will probably slow you down with the stock converter.
