Switching TSA to a new class TTS

The GSCA and I have made a decision in eliminating TSA and replacing it with a new less restrictive race class. Due to the lack of participation, TSA will no longer be running at BG and will be replaced with "TTS". Turbo true street.

TTS will have a more open set of rules than TSA did.

TTS rules have been drafted, look for a new post in the near future.

Sounds like an interesting class, any hints at allowable mods or race format? The TSA class rules is what gave me a target while I updated my THS/TAI car, ie, kept my heat shield as best as I could and put a stock AiResearch tag on my V4 intercooler and Vector rear T 8.5 wheels.

TSA was very restrictive, TTS is very open

No aftermarket fiberglass except bumper fillers
Weight 3550. 3600????
Any air to air intercooler
Alcohol allowed
Street legal drag radials no larger than 275/60
No hood mount gauges
Stock intake manifold and fuel rail with stock location fuel pressure regulator
2004r trans
8.5 10 bolt Buick rear end
Downpipe internal or external waste gate that must exit back into exhaust system. Downpipe no larger than 3". Maybe 3.5"????
No sumped gas tanks or external fuel pumps

That should give an idea of where we are heading.

Stock rail and stock location regulator? Must use exhaust system? What drives these rules? I swear you guys make it very difficult for new guys to be at all interested in participating. I have to compete with all my local friends which have forced induction LS powered stuff. I care more about hanging with them than I do racing once a year with the Buick crowd.

I would like to start participating and have a plan for the car over the winter. Guess Ill have to go TAI

If you want to build a street car radial class why not open the rules up so that guys can build the cars they want and still race. Require current registration and proof of insurance if you want a street car class.

Stock rails and stock location regulator isn't a plus that's for sure. Doesn't make since, my car will never have a class

I just need a dial in class. 10.0 would be good for one of my cars or 11.0 for the other.

Alchalmerson, what kind of intake manifold and fuel rail are you using on your car, and where is your fuel presssure regulator mounted? Also what downpipe is on your car. According to your signature it appears it may fit in the preliminary rules?????

Champion rails on a stock intake here with the regulator external mounted

I have a double pumper racetronix setup that I will be installing this winter with champion rails and an aeromotive external regulator. -8 dual feed the rails. Downpipe is a RJC and although I have exhaust on my car it is open dump under the passanger seat. Thats how I've tuned my car, and thats how I run it on the street.

I'm not trying to be a prick. It just seems the rules on all the Buick classes keep us from building cars and trying new ideas. I am building a 4.1 block this winter and already have a set of kick ass heads for it. I would seriously be considering some of this newer technology BW stuff like maybe a twin scroll setup if I didnt think I would ever run in Buick races. Idk I guess I just figure maybe new people like me are turned off by all the rules. Every class but TSO is 3 bolt only. Most classes require full exhaust etc, no coil overs, etc. Just seems like the racing classes keep the community from expanding unless you go all out and run TSO

THS and TAI have solid 9 sec cars in them, TAI has like 5 rules and its fun. Maybe loosen the rules and just cap it at 10.50 or 10.90 is as fast as you can go, and run heads up? Seems like would be cool to have a group of high 10 and low 11 sec cars racing. I have a new monster of a 109 build, and I daily drove it all summer, should run deep 9's, and I'm a bumper change and fuel pump change from TTS, if you allow external gates and alum heads and 4.2L displacement from a 109. If you want a true street Buick, that's what I built. Road trips to race are epic fun:

I wouldnt want to run a time capped class personally. I would rather loose to a better driver and or car. Hell I ran 10.99 on a unopened engine. Don't worry about me I'm thinking TAI is what I'll dip my toes in. I just figured I would throw out my $0.02 as a new person interested in participating in events

Well, rules are a way to put a cap on et, at least for a short period of time until someone maximizes a combination. This is why we should not allow 9 sec parts in a 10 sec class.

Let me know of any other way to cap the cars at 10.5 to 10.9. Maybe slic? Even some of them are on 9 sec capable cars.

Yes, it will be a heads up class by the way.

I would like to make an average street car class, for the 12 to mid 10 cars, but everybody's cars are so much different that it makes rules ( a cap ) a very difficult hurdle.

Again, this is coming from somebody that has never participated yet. But if thats the class your looking for how about loosening up the rules that just dont matter about performance. If you want 12 to mid 10s how about

93 octane and alky (E85?)
8445 heads
3 bolt turbo
2004r
275 radial
Min weight 3500??
Current tags and registration

Now with what I plan to do over the winter I would be out of that class. But I would be interested in putting my dad in it with his car we HOPE to have painted over the winter. (hoped last winter too)

With what is listed, I can build a mid 9 second car, therefore TTS could run as fast as ths/tai. There must be a limiting agenda in the rules, or why even make a new class?

I suppose you could but your going to have serious money in the heads and valvetrain. You wont do it with untouched 8445s.

I fail to see your point though. Your initial proposed rules would allow any head. But no aftermarket fuel rail.... Those champion fuel rails are what makes an 8 second car!

I want to be able to use any head. Give me a weight penalty for it

How could you tech ported vs non ported heads without disassembly of every car participating. That is not feasible therefore you would have to accept it.

Limiting fuel would limit power correct?

Would be neat to run unmodified stock airbox, stock location intercooler, stock wheels, and as much stock appearing as possible. Look at the other classes in peer tech, ain't nothing stock appearing like TSA had. You could count on one hand how many cars had some version of a stock heat shield still, and no race cars had stock airboxes. I always thought TSA concept was awesome, just kinda expensive and killed performance to remain true to stock parts and appearing as if it rolled off the factory assembly line that morning. Who would drop a full TSM style stroker motor, ported iron heads and no girdle and use stock tty bolts through a TA turbo?

I never said anything about ported vs non ported. Yea I would think 93 and alky would help limit power. Otherwise c16 and alky with manifold pressure in the 40s would yeild some impressive numbers on an unopened longblock [emoji4]

You cant allow aluminum heads (or champion irons?) if you're looking for a 12-10.5 second class.

Again, im not experienced as you guys. My whole point was your looking for participation from new people. These cars are older and significantly less of them are being run on the tracks than maybe 15 years ago. Why make stupid rules that have almost zero performance advantage just to limit the cars that can run? How much does dumped exhaust really add? A guy has a 8 second fuel system on an 11.0 car. So what.... He likes to be safe and go overkill and he's supporting vendors...,
