Ported Compressor Shroud

For those that have turbos with ported shrouds, did the shroud get rid of part throttle surge? I have a TE-44 and PTE SLIC and I'm tired of the part throttle surge.

I have a ported shroud S cover gen 2 6266 and it definitely still surges at part throttle so I try not to be there. It definitely got worse when I installed the rjc FMIC which has more volume than the stock one

I'm running a .63 A/R Precision DBB 5857 Billet Wheel Turbo with S ported Shroud, Precision SLIC and am happy report that there is no surge here at all!

I'm running a Precision DBB 6765 w/upgraded CEA wheels and honestly, it drives just as smooth as your grandpa's Buick on brand new pavement. That is, of course, until you put your foot in it............ :D:D:D:D

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks.

my S cover 5857 runs so smooth
this would bring the count up too, two 5857 with no surge and one 6765

Smaller compressors have a surge line that is much farther to the left (lower flow rates) and big compressors have a surge line further to the right (higher flow rates). This means big compressors surge/stall a lot more at low flow rates (ie part throttle).

A ported shroud helps by pushing the surge line slightly to the left on the compressor map, but not a huge amount. The porting also hurts compressor efficiency a few percent too.

That's weird. I went from a ta49 stock cover to a 6262 ported anitsurge and there was no comparison. The ta49 had a nasty surge. My s366 current turbo will surge a little also with the ported housing. Does your 6266 have the holes in the turbo inlet?

Yes. I dont think it did it much with the stock intercooler but it does it badly with the RJC 315 FMIC

Thats tough. I have had surge problems with a 6262 s ported cover on a ported iron flat tappet FMIC car. Went to a TE45a s not ported cover no surge.

6765 ported h cover on a iron 235 and fmic. No issue.
5858 ported s cover on a ported iron flat tappet stock intercooler car. No surge

6262 E cover on ported iron roller cam fmic motor. No issue.

Guess its the driver/combo type thing.

Yea idk. Its only at around 1/2 throttle 10-15 psi and it will surge to the point it will sputter ans if you let out it will sputter more etc. No problem at WOT 27-30 psi though. 17 blade ptc converter. Idk if that changes the loading enough at part throttle to matter

Maybe BB cartridge contributes since its slightly easier / faster to spool???

Could. Mine are a ATI 3200, PTC 18 blade, single disc vigilante and a ptc 19 blade.
