Which Steel Crank???

Side by side difference between a crower billet crank and cast china crank (scal 9000). 3.74" stroke ford. The crower only weighs 2lbs.

Scat, Crower, King, Moldex, Bryant and Winberg will all make you a billet crank with $$$$ and a little wait.

We have never had a China crank failure of the hundred or so we have used in our engine builds, a few of which were approaching 1000 RWHP.

I know of some forged cranks that have broken, including one of mine a BMS, and these were well "used" and had been machined and repaired to clean up the rod journals.

Metal does suffer fatigue, and especially a crank subjected to rotating and flexing loads and will give up at some point.

Many serious racers change cranks and other items to avoid carnage, and I replace my forged crank, BMS or China, after a few hundred passes.

My opinion is that a serious street car will never have a forged crank failure unless it has been damaged and repaired.

We have re-used a few forged cranks after having them machined and checked, and never seen an issue with them.

I was considering TA's 4340 Crank I wonder if they finish those in-house or they are machined by a third-party?

Yes, you can get a 3.625" stroke billet Crower crank for about $3400 and the wait is 3-4 months or more?

The one I ordered 6 months ago just arrived.

So it's either Chinese or it's all in/best of the best? Guess I'll have to go Chinese when the time comes. It's good to hear that you don't see many failures with them, but I'm sure the fit and finish aren't completely up to par (the necessary extra machining that needs done).

I just built a motor this spring with the GN1 crank-no extra machining required.

I also bought an eagle stock stroke kit last christmas and still have yet to recieve the crank-full throttle says they are on back order- they did offer the GN1 crank and I was like no thanks I can wait the whole reason I bought the kit was the sale and get the other crank adds $300 so that negates the savings, I can wait.

You can also try to contact Dan @ DLS. He was selling some nice rotating assemblies from BA Performance. I don't think that he is doing the big 3.750 stroke assemblies anymore but $$$$ talks.

Are there any non-Chinese cranks being made?

Right here. Also, the cost was $3300 with shipping. Wish it were $2700..... Crower crank, Crower rods, and Diamond pistons was roughly $6k.
